Hi guys,
Normally the pricing in the store for most Steinberg products when buying from Australia is currency conversion give or take, roughly. Which is what it’s always been for Wavelab and Cubase prior to WL12.
Note: currency conversions are done using xe.com for comparison.
WaveLab Pro 12 is $499.99 US when shopping from the US. ($766.42 AUD)
WaveLab Pro 12 is $936.00 AUD when shopping from Australia. ($610.63 US)
That’s an extra $169.58 AUD.
For comparison:
Cubase Pro 13 is $579.99 US browsing from the US store.
Cubase Pro 13 $868.00 AUD when browsing from Australia. ($566.28 US)
Tax / GST is 10% and has always been included, so there’s not a change there and the price of Cubase is in line with what you would expect.
I know that Steinberg migrated to the new ecommerce platform, so I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think it’s an oversight, but otherwise that’s pretty extreme price jacking and very poor on Steinberg’s part.
Can someone from Steinberg confirm please?
Thanks
Hello,
thanks for reporting, we’ll be looking into it.

Thanks Timo, much appreciated
Hey Timo,
Any updates?
This looks extremely bad on Steinberg’s part as it currently stands.
Thanks
Hello, can you please let me know what pricing is shown today in the online shop from out of your location?
Thanks,
Timo
Hi
I just checked and it says AUD936 (see screenshot)

Hi Paul, thank you for checking. I’ve double checked with our eCommerce team.
Can you please put WaveLab 12 into the shopping basket (not buying though) and check again the price? The shopping basket has an own exchange rate system.
Can you then please let me know the price (you can also PM me).
Thank you for your support in this matter! We’re trying to find out if just the display is wrong.
All the best,
Timo
Hi
You are correct … it changed the price (down to AUD 863). I did the screenshot. Can I post that here or do you prefer PM.
BTW, I am not the original poster … I just happen to be in Oz and helping out.

Thank you Paul. You can post that here.
Thanks for checking,
Timo
Here it is … screenshot of the cart
Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks for adding these Paul.
Timo, I did notice clicking through was also a different price and from what you’ve said, them having different exchange rates explains that now. While lower, still much higher than just exchange difference.
Both places look wrong just to differing degrees
Both prices look way out. The first first page is horrendous and the cart is still bad unfortunately. Cubase pricing is fine as a reference for them to check if they want to A/B settings on the ecomm / site.
Hello,
AUD863 is actually about EUR 517. The EUR base price is EUR 499. This deviation of about 3,8% is due to currency exchange rates, which we can’t influence.
However, there is definitely an issue with the price display and the shopping cart display. This will be fixed with out eCommerce provider until end of this month.
Thanks,
Timo
Hi Timo,
Price is $499 USD when browsing from US.
Adding it to the cart it’s $499 USD.
$499 USD converted to AUD is: $764.90 on xe.com
The prices for Cubase all make sense and are in the ballpark when currency conversion is taken into account. You can see the examples from my first post.
The front page price and the cart price when browsing from Australia are both a lot more than in the US (conversions accounted).
The prices before WL 12 were fine. The prices for WL 11 before the new store were fine.
These prices have increased significantly and yet the RRP for WL hasn’t.
Something definitely isn’t right.
Thanks
