Why does Dorico show on the print preview screen all staves of my large orchestral score (34 staves) as being bunched up and overlapping. Is there a setting I can use to cause Dorico to print out a legible score.
e.g. is there any way of tying in the number of staves to the page size (At the moment when I specify a larger page size the print preview does not change).
Can you please upload your project or at least a screenshot? How does the Layout look in Engrave mode?
Hi @Julian_C, go to Layout Options/Page Setup and
-make sure that on the right, your Full Score layout is selected: the changes in Layout Options are layout specific
-choose the desired Page Size (for your many instruments may be A3)
-reduce the Rastral Size to make the staves shrink. You can try the smallest size, and if it is not enough, you can reduce the Space Size (Just below the Rastral Size).
(for a Conductor score is not suggested to go below 4mm Staff)
You want to make this changes when you are in Write Mode with the Page View active, or in Engrave mode, so that you see the real distribution of staves on the page (Galley view doesn’t give a preview of the actual distances). In Engrave mode you can also observe the fullness of the frames (the little greenish % numbers at the bottom of each page)
Also consider using Condensing to reduce the number of staves in the Full Score.
You need to double check that you are looking at the correct layout in the print preview. If you have multiple versions of the “full score” (for example) and have only been editing one, the others are bound to look weird, but if the other weird one is at the top of the print preview list (see the left column) then it’s little wonder things look weird.
Thanks Christian for a very clear set of instructions which actually worked.
(I did not realise there was a page size setting in layout/options)
I was anticipating hours of fiddling with the vertical spacing handles in engrave mode which did n’t seem to be the way to go with such a large number of staves so I am gvery grateful for your prompt assistance

You are welcome, glad I could help
