Print problems

I just want to print the first page of a project, as I only selected the material there, and then I also tried muting what follows. But my only choice in printing is ‘all’. When I try to pick a range or 1, it doesn’t allow anything in that box. And so it prints 2 empty pages twice, skipping the 1st page. Before I finally got it to print that. but it I put more paper in, it will print the 2 empty pages.

Also how does print to file work. If I press the button for print to file, I don’t see anything happen or where such a file would be.

This is unbelievably stupid. I couldn’t stop the print queue. I had to turn off the printer to do so.

Then I go to another part, expecting to print just the 1st page, turn off and clear the queue, but instead, with only the 1st 16 measures selected that would be on page 1, it prints page 5 , which is just 3 empty staves.

Printing is done in terms of pages, selection has no bearing on it. Cubase only sends the job to the printer driver, and then Cubase is no longer involved – it’s the printer driver that does everything. This is done via opening the Score Editor and going to menu File>Print.

That’s the only way to print in Cubase, but it doesn’t sound like what you’re describing.

If you’re using Select Export Range that’s a different thing. That produces a graphics file via menu File>Export>Scores

Is that what you are doing?

So I was on the phone with epson about this and they determined I had an incorrect driver and so we uninstalled and installed the correct one after a lengthy process. then I returned to the situation trying to print a score in Cubase . I’ve highlighted the 1st 16 measures and set so they just fit on page one. beyond is muted out. I go to print score and can only select print all, as pages, custom range is grayed out and won’t allow entering a 1 or anything. So all this made no difference at all.

In contrast, if I go to the Cubase PDF document, Score Layout and Printing, then that box is not grayed out and I can enter a 1 or any combination of numbers, So why, if page one has the essence or ‘head’ of a song, should I be required to print measures beyond which may just be a lot of improv, or nothing at all on that track? I will look into the export though.

Is it that I am not actually selecting a page by being on itm showing and clicking on it>
Because I got nowhere with export score either. It sasys you can export a page. In page mode, I go to File>Export>Score and I have no dialog, just the folder it’s in and I can’t enter any name in file name, nor type and that’s all.

Please, @robirdman1 try to understand what I posted, and at least answer questions I ask when I’m trying to help you.

no. It’s not stupid in any way.

You have to use the tool in the image to select what you want to export. This is not a print function at all, is unrelated to printing.

I have wanted to send a page of a score to band members. I tried print to file and got nowhere. Then I shrunk a page so I could use the snipping tool and take a picture and email that. But that resulted in something that was hard to read -soo small.

so then Iwanted to print a single page as I said, but the dialog won’t let me choose that one selected page . It will keep printing more pages unless I turn off the printer and remove the print queue. so I did that and scanned the page on another computer and sent.
It seems there should be a better way and I thought what you suggested with the export might be it. But as I said, when I go File>Export>score, I don’t get a window with a tool to select the area, I get what I posted before with file name and type boxes that I can’t add anything to. So how can I select a toll when following the instructions given (File>Export>score) I don’t get that window with any tools or icons?

I don’t know what to say, it’s as if you are not reading what I wrote. The tool is in the score editor.

Maybe someone else will try to help you.

So, I thought your instruction for the export wwere just those 3 things - go to file>export>score.
So after your last statement that I didn’t follow directions, I opened the manual and pasted Select Export Range. there were 2 incidences. It said to click the select export range in the edit toolbar. So I already looked in the score toolbar for an icon like you had and saw none like it. so the I went to look up score edit with 226 references. Backed up to the first and saw that it was the same toolbar I just looked at. Right clicking to see more choices did not show anything with that name. So I clicked to show all and finally after scrutinizing I saw and icon that looked to be the one , like an I, and when I then hover over it, it says select export range. So then I draw over the page, so there is a box around all I want, and THEN go to file>export. And then I get the same page I inserted before, where it won’t allow me to type anything in the name box or type. Just another hour wasted getting nowhere with this buggy program that had its daily crash shortly before and requiring a reboot as Cubase just wouldn’t fully close with task manager. I will have to go to a higher level to see if any of these methods actually work as expected.

I assume you are using Cubase Pro.

While in the Score Editor

  1. Scores>Page Layout
  2. File>Print

When in the score editor:

  1. Activate Select Export Range tool
    image
  2. Draw to select the area you want to export as a graphics file
  3. Go to Menu: File>Export>Scores and Save file. You can specify name and type name field and the dropdown menu nearby

I called Steinberg tech help and with team viewer, was verified that it is not working right, can’t add anything in name or type. escalated problem.
