Printing brochures - A4 - 14x10 cm

Good day.

I have a problem printing brochures.

I would like to create a marching booklet, where the dimensions of one page are 14 cm x 10 cm. I have this set in the layout options. When printing a single page, everything is ok. The problem occurs with the brochure. the size of the pages in the brochure is always maximized to the width of the sheet of paper. I would like the pages to be in the center of the sheet of paper and then I would like to use a guillotine to trim them (edges, bleeds). I have no idea anymore.

Has anyone from the esteemed group of users encountered this problem?
Best regards

You should be able to fit two pages onto A4 landscape. Make sure you have Custom Scale set to 100%, rather than Fit to Paper.

I have it set to 100%.
However, even though I have the dimensions 10x14 in the layout settings, when it comes to brochures it stretches to the entire width of the sheet of paper.

I’ll have to dig into the code that sets up the pagination for the booklet to see what might be happening there. I can imagine why we might make it fill the width of the page, because when printing the reverse, we would need to offset the pages in the other direction.

It might be more practical to make a regular single-page PDF from Dorico and then impose it using another tool – I have used the tools from NYC Music Services with great success in the past:

(PDF-BatchBooklet is the one you’re after.)

I understand.

I think the solution to the problem would be for Dorico not to maximize the pages to the width. But to keep the center point vertically and horizontally. Then, when cutting the 4 edges with a guillotine, we would have a “symmetrical” brochure. Without shifting when turning to the other side.

Yes, quite right. I will dig into this and have a look to see exactly what Dorico is doing when I get a chance.

This can be done after exporting to pdf and then creating a brochure in Adobe Reader when printing. However, it would be great if it could be done directly from Dorico. I believe it is possible.

Additionally, it would be great if Dorico had options that the brochure could be set vertically and not just horizontally, and every other page rotated by 180 degrees.
This would greatly improve the work of brass band masters in creating orchestra materials (marching, church).
Maybe in the future it will be possible to add these functionalities to Dorico.
