Printing score and parts

Is there a way to order printing so that each full score flow is followed by its parts, then the next flow and parts, etc.? (My alternative is to do this page order rearranging in Acrobat, but I was hoping to avoid that.)

So you want the Score’s first flow, then each instrumental part’s first flow; then the score’s second flow…?

If the PDFs of each Flow need to be so separated, do you actually need them in the same document at all? In many ways, it might be quicker to do it as separate project files.

I’m curious about the workflow – are they all reassembled into one PDF, Flow by flow?

Yes.

Probably right, in retrospect, and if the answer to my question is ‘No’.

Yes, that is what I would have to do in Acrobat Pro. And the score is four-voices, 21 flows, 105 pages. At this point, if there is no such option in Dorico, it may be simplest to separate all flows into projects, print those with their parts, then recombine and paginate the whole bunch in Acrobat. Its going to be over 300 pages altogether.

What’s the use-case/benefit of having them all like this?

To be published only as downloaded pdf. Players can browse for the particular pieces (flows) that they want and print only the score and/or parts they want to play. Providing all scores and parts in one pdf is far less cumbersome than having them download separate ones to decide what they want to print and play. pdfs are very small.

By voices you mean instruments, right?

(Because if these were singers, they would presumably all sing from a combined score.)

Yes, I do mean instruments since these are viol transcriptions of vocal music but, parenthetically, the originals are in Renaissance part books for which performers did not have a combined score.

Were you planning to hire singers from the Renaissance? I hear they come at a premium these days, and their advanced age makes their voices less than optimal. :smirk:

No problem putting instruments on separate parts, of course.

Ray, yes, you can in Setup Mode create as many layouts as you like, each containing only one instrument and only one flow.
For example:
viol 1 flow 1
viol 1 flow 2
viol 1 flow 3
viol 1 flow 4
viol 1 flow 5
……etc.
viol 2 flow 1
viol 2 flow 2
… you get the picture
Then when printing or exporting to pdf you select all of these individual layouts to be printed or exported.
