I’m on the verge of upgrading from Cubase Pro 12 to 14 which I’m testing out through its trial version on a copy of a current v.12 project.
One of the important selling points for me of v.14 is the ability to arrange the tracks in the MixConsole for easier workflow. But some can’t be moved - and I make sure that they are in the same L - M - R Visibility category in the MixConsole.
So why is this happening and what is the solution?
Second, and this issue that has also been a problem for me in v.11 and v.12, is that some tracks (Audio or VSTi or MIDI) can’t be hidden (Shift+H in Windows). I’ve even toggled Visibility in the main Project window, but hiding tracks there there don’t get hidden in the MixConsole when applying Shift+H either.
Same thing: why is this happening and what is the fix if any?
@Buer - As stated in the OP, that doesn’t work. Here below is an overlay of the MixConsole and the Project Window underneath. As an example shown, the “AC Strum” is unticked in the Project window, but still can’t be hidden in the MixConsole.
In terms of moving tracks, I just discovered a kind of workaround or maybe it’s a bug of some kind:
I can’t seem to move a track within the L visibility zone in the MixConsole to anywhere except to the very first slot.
However…
If I drag it to my M or R visibility zone, it does go there, and then… I can drag it back into the L sector.
And then I can hide it…
Weird and complicated but maybe a temporary solution.
Some feedback here from Steinberg would be welcomed on what mistakes not to make in this whole moving and hiding aspect of it all.
Later Edit: The last couple of steps worked once, but now doesn’t (when a track is moved into the M zone, can’t drag back to its original L zone.
My M zone tracks are Group or Fx track in their own folders, maybe that’s affecting things. But even hiding entire Folder tracks in the Project window still doesn’t let me hide all the included tracks in those folders in the MixConsole. This shouldn’t happen IMO…
I must be doing something wrong, or not.
And/or still a possible bug since this re-arranging option is new in v.14
@Johnny_Moneto - Thanks, both observations make sense and I’ll test out both observations. I’m not in v.14 right now.
As to the input channel (I only have one):
I’ll see what happens when I move mine to the middle or far right since I don’t need to monitor it. My only input is using my Korg Trinity as MIDI controller for my VSTi (no live or audio recordings).
As a possible feature request, it would be nice to be able to hide all tracks in a folder such as having a thin vertical reference “track” to the left of all tracks contained within each folder in the MixConsole.
— Click/toggle on that to instantly show/hide all of the contained tracks as one can do in the Project window.
Maybe I should turn this idea into an actual feature request in the appropriate part of the forum here. Though maybe since folders are not real tracks, it could be a bit of a thorny coding issue to pull this off.
Most people think their feature request is small and can be programmed in 1 hour or so. Nice of you to be a bit more realistic.
By the way - you called them “real tracks”. The Mixer does display only channels. Many track types have a channel included into them, like audio, MIDI, groups, etc. However, track types like folders, tempo or chords do not have a channel within them. Therefore they cannot be seen in the Mixer.
