Problem accessing the right end of text input

I’m in Engrave editing a page template. I want to change the project arranger so that it is right justified instead of left justified. How do I move the text input panel (I’m not sure of the name) so that I can get to the justification tools at the right end?

I’ve already got the page display down to 75% so I don’t have a way to slide the page left or right and I don’t see a way to slide the text box around.

Hmm, I don’t see that, even when editing a text box on the right.

It looks like you’re editing the RH page of the template. You should be able to edit the LH page instead – those text boxes are linked, so edits applied to one page will affect the other.

Otherwise, you can collapse the right-hand panel by clicking the little arrow.

Thank you. However, when I close the right panel and click for the text box it comes up in a different position and is usable. Notice above the left edge of the text box is aligned with the left edge of the frame. But here the text box is positioned in the middle of the window.

I’ve encountered times when entering text while in Write (as a reminder to myself above a bar) this box is positioned at the selected point. If that bar is along the right edge much of the text box is out the window.

To me part of the problem is that box is not moveable. I can’t slide it around to a better position.

I am able to resolve the current problem. Thank you.

I think you missed my point. In my original query the justification buttons you highlighted are not visible. I know where those buttons are and know what they do. I could not get to them. I could not adjust the position of the text box. Only after asherber suggested closing the right panel would the text box open in a position where I could see the justification buttons. That resulted in my second post to this query.

Part of the problem is that the text box isn’t always positioned so that it is entirely visible and when it isn’t I have no way to reposition it.

Well, they are always visible on my PC.

bellist, do you have any “non standard” resolution set for your desktop?
I am not the window(s) man, but if you right-click onto your computer desktop/screen, you can access the video settings, part of which is the resolution.

I have not changed the resolution on my computer.

I do have something that is non standard, and I see it is relevant. I use two monitors, one positioned horizontal on the right, one vertical on the left. I run Dorico in the vertical monitor because it allows me to see a whole page of music. I view the pages with “Single Page Vertically” scrolling so I can see the music continue from the bottom of one page to the top of the next. I do this even though Dorico frequently undoes the Windows button to fit window to screen. When it does that the Dorico window spreads wider than the monitor and I see part of it in the horizontal screen. I have to use fit window to screen to use the full extent of the vertical scroll. I’m used to that now. I prefer to do that and see a whole page or more of music.

I tried pulling up the text box in a variety of scenarios in Engrave and editing the page template for the first page with display zoom at 75%.

In the vertical monitor with the left panel closed and right panel open I see part of the text box. It’s left edge is aligned with the left edge of the frame for project arranger. This is the image in my original post at the top of this question.

In the vertical monitor with the both left and right panels closed the text box is centered in the width of the window and is completely visible.

In the horizontal monitor with the left panel closed and the right panel open the text box is completely visible, but it is not centered and is not aligned with the frame holding the project arranger.

In the horizontal monitor with both panels closed the text box is completely visible (there’s lots of room), but its placement seems to vary. Sometimes it is centered, sometimes its left edge is aligned with the text frame, sometimes it is placed between those two positions.

I see that if the right panel was open and the text box was aligned with the frame the right side of the box would not be visible.

I see two problems:

  1. The position of the text box is inconsistent and it is not placed to make sure it is always completely visible.
  2. Once placed, the text box cannot be adjusted to make it completely visible.

I am using Dorico 5.

I agree that being able to move the text editor would be a QoL improvement. I too tend to work in different setups (laptop only - laptop with 2 screens in landscape mode - laptop with screen in portrait) and the positioning of something like the text editor can end up wonky. So being able to move it would be very helpful.

@bellist It’s not what you asked, but when I’m working with a screen in portrait mode (the vertical screen) I like to display my project on both the portrait and landscape screens. That way I can edit stuff like text on the horizontal screen while keeping a full page in view on the vertical one. Go to Window>Show tabs to enable tabs, then choose Window>Move tab to new window. You don’t even have to have more than one tab open for that to work. You can then move each window to a different screen. (You can also display different parts on each window, or have one in Write mode and one in Engrave, etc.).

Window > Move tab to new window – Cool! Thank you! This will be really useful!
