Problem selecting voice

I have a score with two voices on one stave. I followed the instructions to select only one voice (for a simple example, in just one bar), by selecting the first note in the voice, then cmd/shift/A, then shift/selecting the last note in the voice. This works. However, when I do the same on a bar which is identical except that the very first “note” in the voice I want is a rest, it always selects both voices. The rest is in the correct voice, as seen in the Properties. What am I missing? (Filter does work but is more hassle and I have to repeat this process quite often).

Rests are not notes, so this behaviour should be no surprise.

What is preventing you from selecting the first note rather than the rest? If you are copying it elsewhere you can alt-click the grid position (It needn’t be start of a bar) and if you misplace it, alt-arrow will move it. This is remarkably quick.

Other methods may be quicker, but you have not really explained the use-case so I can’t advise further.

Thanks. I come from another system where notes did belong to voices, but I see what you mean. The use case is that I have a bar in which one voice starts with a rest and I need to repeat that voice up to sixteen times in subsequent bars (while different things happen in the other voice). I thought I could just select the whole of the voice in the initial bar, including the rest, copy once, and then paste the whole bar repeatedly. If I have to find the grid position in each of the repeated bars it will be much slower. There must be another way?

After the first pasted bar, only voice 1 is present. Select the notes including the rest of that bar, and press R

You can select the bar’s contents (click somewhere in the stave, not on a note or rest), Edit > Filter > Voices > up stem voice (or whichever it is)

(unless I am misunderstanding what you have in that bar and what you are wanting to do)

I think @TonH and @arco offer the simplest solution.
Use filter>voices… to select the voice (including the rest), then R to repeat it as often as you need.

(Also it may be helpful to turn on voice colours: view>note and rest colours>voice colours)

Thanks for the helpful replies. I think R is the useful feature I had failed to identify! Will experiment. I do have voice colours on.
