Hi, I’ve been asked to post here… I’m having a strange problem trying to fix a piano part rhythmic notation.
I have a file imported from Finale if that has any bearing on matters. I am trying different ways to get the rhythmic slashes all on to the middle line. What I thought would be dirty but quick would be to convert back to normal notation, repitch using locked durations, then turn back into stemmed slashes. But when I did this the pitches reverted to the original. Any thoughts on why this would happen? (I have a video but can’t upload it here)
In the attached file:
Select bars 1-9
Right click>voices>change voices>up-stem voice 1
Note imput, lock durations, change all to middle staff B
Select bars 1-9
Right click>voices>change voices>new slashed up-stem voice
The slashes has Slash position on in the properties panel. Fastest way to solve it is to select the first slash note, Ctrl-shift-A and crtl-shift-A again. All the slash notes in that voice are selected now. In the properties panel (bottom panel) deselect slash pos.
That’s a great solution (well, it is THE solution) - thank you.
I’m still interested in understanding the reason behind the strange behaviour I described though (but that’s OK for another day, I can get on with tweaking the rest of the part now).
XML contains a lot of information. Information that Finale and Dorico might interpret differently. The thing you see here could be an unintional “bug” in either software. As Finaly is unlikely to change this, we have to learn how to handle it when importing to Dorico.
The result you get may change depending on your Preferences>MusicXML Import options.
If you want Dorico to interpret things its own way, leave every option unticked. Any time you tick option to tell Dorico to respect the xml file it is likely that Dorico will have to force some properties.
