Processing Overload in Audio Performance Monitor no matter what

Anyone able to suggest?

Running:
Cubase 14 Pro (v14.0.41)
Windows 11 Pro (up to date)
SSL Big Six (drivers AND firmware at latest version)
Intel 11th Gen i7-11700K (3.6GHz base) and 48GB RAM at 3200MHz

Settings: (even with)
Activate Multi Processing ON
Activate ASIO-Guard ON and set to HIGH
Steinberg Audio Power Scheme ACTIVATED
Safe Mode ON (SSL control panel) and a Buffer Size of 512 samples, or even more

  • Even when my system is doing nothing (like not even playing) the three meters in the Audio Performance Monitor are bouncing around midpoint level or higher, and the red overload box gets lit up the whole time.

This doesn’t matter if it’s a virtually empty project even and nothing going on. All my Windows power settings are double checked (the Steinberg Audio Power profile running) and all set to max performance and energy savings and so on disabled.

How many plugins in total are active and taking power ?

Happens with only a handful. Even if Cubase isn’t doing anything… as in neither playing, loading nor recording. In this case and what caused me to post was when nothing was active apart from an audio track monitoring live guitar with Guitar Rig 7 running.

  • Was it working OK at some point?

  • Is your audio interface directly attached to your computer, or connected through a hub?

  • Do you still see the same issue when using another audio interface?

  • Do you see the same issue even with a completely empty project?

  • Are you running any other audio/video applications while using Cubase?
