Profile Manager - How to Save Current Settings or Overwrite the Current Profile?

Hey all. So I’m a bit confused as to how the Profile Manager works. Recently, I was having some intermittent issues and wanted to delete my prefs and restore as that normally fixes it. I want to utilize the Profile Manager as that’s a much more streamlined way of going about this procedure. However, the manual is not clear on how to save your current settings. I’ve read some posts here and just want to clarify. My inquiry is:

  • How does one overwrite the current profile to the current settings? Example: I just made some new key commands and want to update my current profile. There is not a save or overwrite option in the Profile Manager.
  • Does exporting the selected profile in effect Save the selected profile with the current settings?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

You are right, it can be confusing. I had difficulties to wrap my head around the concept, too. The way you need to proceed if you want to update your profile based on the current profile with its changes:

  1. Set the focus on the current profile wich is ticked off. You have to do this because if you open the profile manager the focus is set on an empty default profile (that was the confusing part, I guess).
  2. Duplicate and save as with a new name
  3. If you want to “officially” activate this new profile - which is no different from the profile you are currently working with - you need to activate it and restart the project.

That´s about it in a nutshell. Hope that helps!

I fully agree this is confusing and could be improved, and the manual was also not helpful as there is no mention of how to save.

It might also be better if the current profile was highlighted on open.

Thanks @Reco29 good explanation.

Yes it is confusing, I would run into the problem of setting up the Cubase preferences and settings exactly how I wanted them and then in the Profile Manager I would click “New” and that would erase everything back to the default settings when I thought it would save it as a new profile.

I eventually learnt, but I think this confusion could have been avoided if there was a “Save” button.

True. That’s the reason why I wrote a little tutorial on how to save profiles because the manual is leaving out important details.
Since the relase of Cubase 15, profiles save even more info and presets. Unfortunately, they forgot to mention it in the manual…again…
