Project and Layout headings etc

As a rather inexperienced Dorico user, I am struggling with the right combinations of settings in Project Info and Layout Options to get my score to look like i want it to.

  1. My current project has 2 flows. In the first page of the second flow, I want only the flow title to show on top of the page, but the project title comes up above it as well. In an earlier, unfinished project, this did not happen. May I accidentaly have copied the information from the Project to Flow 2? If so, is there any way to reset it? Or is the reason some mysterious setting in the Layout Options?
  2. The project title also appears as a header in each page. I do not want this to show in the full score, only in the parts. I have looked in vain for ways in the Layout Option to achieve this. Is it possible?

I’ll try two answers, but it would be easier to help you if we could see your project, or at least some screenshots, because the answers can vary depending on the situation, and on what you need exactly.

In Layout Options > Page Setup > Flows > Use First page template: choose First flow only

You can open the full score in Engrave Mode, double click the Default page template, and remove the token in the header.

If these answers don’t help, please give more details!

  1. I had already chosen First Page Only in the Layout Options at the oiutset. Still the title appears on top of the 2nd flow.
  2. This worked fine, except that the header still was there in Page 2 of the score. So I tried to delete the title header in P.2 of the First Template, but then the title disappeared from the first page as well, so I had to discard that chenge.

For #2, note that left and right pages are separate. If I’ve understood you correctly, you should get what you want if you delete the title in the header of both the left and right pages in the Default page template.

For #1, like charles_piano said, it would be easier to figure out what’s going on and help you if you shared the file. That setting should do the trick. Did you set the layout option for the right Layout? Do you have any overrides on the page?

I enclose the file:

Concertino.dorico (3.3 . MB)

That’s because you have page overrides:

Right-click and choose “Remove all page overrides”.

Then the options and the templates will take effect.

As for the flow titles, if you only want roman numerals, you don’t need to enter them as a flow title in the project info. (Now you have “1. I”, “2. II”)

Open the Default Flow Heading, and replace the first token with "Flow Number (Roman, upper case).

Keep the period if you want, and delete {@flowTitle@}, so your flow heading looks like this:

Result:

Another way would be to do the opposite: delete the first token (Flow Number) and keep the second one (Flow Title).

Concertino.dorico (3.3 MB)

Thank you for a thorough reply.

I tried to change the flow number to Roman Upper-Case as you suggested, but was not able to find the pull-down menu shown in you reply. (Of course, I could do it the other way – delete the flow number and keep the title, but I think the first way is better, also for future projects)

When I checked Remove All Page Overrides, I lost all editing of staff distances I had done, so I changed to Remove Page Override instead. Still, on the first page of flow 2 (p. 12), the page changed to 3 systems instead of 2, resulting in distorting all the following pages in Flow 2. (Of course, I immediate took cmnd-Z) Could Lock Systems in Engrave>Format Systems or Lock Frame in Format Music Frames prevent this?

When the token is selected, right-click, you’ll see the the left drop-down menu, click (or hover over) Flow Info, and you’l get the right one with the token for Roman Numerals.

When it happens, you can select something in the first bar of the 3d system (e.g. the first note of the Guitar), and press Shift+F to create a frame break. It should be sufficient to restore the system distribution in the flow, I think.

Thank you very much. Everything worked well.
