Proofreading: why niente end of a hairpin generate a additional dynamic consideration

When I enter a hairpin ending in niente, The proofreading algorithm suggest the consideration shown in the screenshot. Why is this? There never is a dynamic after such a niente the whole point being the volume is zero at the end of the duration. On top of this there is a dynamic a few bars further.

(by the way the hairpin with the niente should end at the barline and the n should be on the ⅛ note in the next bar as per the original score but unfortunately the “end at the barline” property also shifts the n as integrated part before the barline when you use this type of hairpin and you cannot enter niente without hairpin.)

My learned colleague informs me that this shouldn’t happen if the niente hairpin goes to the end of the tied quaver, ie the niente ends where the note/tie chain ends.

Does your hairpin stop short of the end of the quaver?

Thanks Lillie, The issue indeed has to do with the end of the hairpin. It is extremely sensitive. In the screenshot below made with the Dorico iPad version (the original was on my Mac), I lengthened the hairpin with one click shift+option right arrow and the proofreading comment goes away. You can see the orange range markers which probably point just after the note. It is not possible to get this result with the standard entry of the hairpin i.e. position the carret shift+D, enter >n and press space to set the hairpin length.

One click more and it says the hairpin ends where there aren’t any notes which by the way is a pratice which many original scores unfortunately do use both before, to show a crescendo attack and after notes but I agree that this should generate a warning in the proofreading list.

You definitely can enter the hairpin this way. Just remember that when you press space, the caret advances by the currently selected rhythmic duration. By default, when you start note input, the duration is set to a quarter note. So if you’re starting the hairpin on beat 3, for example, after starting the hairpin with Shift+D, >n, you could press space twice to advance to the downbeat of the next bar, then change your duration to an eighth note and press space once more. Or you could change your duration to an eighth note before pressing space, and then press space 5 times.

Thanks for that explanation. I never realised clearly that there are actually two jump values which can be set independently. The one for the left and right arrows in the bottom left which I nearly always have at the smallest value and the jump of the space bar and the carret by the active note value. As my hairpin does not start on an exact quarter it jumps too far with the spacebar (or not far) enough and it needed the fine adjustment. with the arrow to make the comment go away.
