ProTools to Nuendo file conversion software

I don’t know if I’m out of order posting this here, but I thought I’d bring the software “Interchanger” to people’s attention.

It’s designed to convert from ProTools to Nuendo and Reaper in any direction. It still has an issue or two, but it’s incredibly promising and in many instances already usable.

There is presently an issue with polyphonic file mapping (which the developer is aware of), but I have used it on a basic dialogue edit from PT to N15, and it was great.

It’s also good value right now.

It’s also Mac only.

I gave wg daw a go and got an unreadable xml but just realised its not a Steinberg xml, doh.

I also tried converting it to a daw project but if failed to bring across most of the clips.

I’ll keep trying

Yeah sadly I’ve had issues with clip levels with AATranslator.

The interchanger dev has just responded to a big test session i sent so I’m looking forward to testing the updated relalease.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to try it because I don’t have a Mac, but they announce that a PC version is on the way.

Why not convert to Cubase .cpr?

Tried a cubase project but it was taking a loooong time, was going to take about 50 mins for a 8 GB session so had to bail and keep worling with AAF for now.

I left a Cubase conversion running and at the moment WG DAW suffers from the age old problem of what track to display from poly wavs used by PT.

Unfortunately my studio firewall will not allow access to the WG DAW website for feedback so I’ll let them know when I eventually get home

Me too, but it’s cumbersome in a few aspects. For example, I converted a PT-session to Steinberg XML just yesterday, only to find out that the individual tracks of a stereo-file carry faulty meta-data, causing routing errors with multi-channel-savvy plug-ins.

Maybe the new kids on the block can do this smarter …?

Fingers crossed. A new interchanger update should be out soon. The thing that gives me hope with this is the fantastic responsiveness of the dev and that it’s not trying to do absolutely everything, just PT, Nuendo, and Reaper.

I would by a license instantly, but I don’t have a machine that complies with the requirements (macOS 14 or higher) at the moment …

Luckily i have an old m1pro but if i didnt and If this ends up working well it would almost be worth having a little macbook neo on hand just for this. A bit over the top sure but damm i hate aafs

+1 for WG DAW Converter.

I recently converted a clients ProTools session into a Cubase project, which I opened in Nuendo. Worked perfectly. AATranslator can’t do that.

I just tried another wg and a 1.69gb dialogue edit was going to take about 49 mins from ptx to Cubase. Ran it through interchanger in about 30 secs.

I will keep persevering with wg as well though.

More available apps are better i reckon.

Hats off to these wizards making these programs for us!!

Please explain. Do you mean Multi channel? Or actually polyphonic??? (How would it know or care if the audio contained polyphony?)

There might be a 10-channel BWAV file recorded on location. Pro Tools seems to allow the editor to choose a channel to play/edit on a mono track (I often reconform dialogue to Pro Tools sessions that refer to production audio folders for my editors using EdiLoad, which does exactly this), but the wg daw converted file displays and plays every channel. I’m not sure if this is always the case, as I don’t want to check the hundreds of files in the session, but one instance is enough of a problem.

I encounter the same problem with all conversion software, so I usually end up going back to AAF, but I’m told the Interchanger developer is aware of this and is working on it.

Splitting the files to multiple mono in AATranslator has produced mixed results.

Just got a new release of Interchanger. Polyphonic to mono file mapping seems to be working well now and all clips on an 8GB FX edit have translated well from Protools to Nuendo.

I compared the conversion to an AAF I created and it looks good, but obviously without millions of annoying fade clips
