When selecting a text item, being able to show the paragraph style in the status bar would be a QoL improvement. It now only says staff- or system-attached text:
Also, being able to choose what info from the Selection Summary is being shown would also be nice (I have no use for the timecode, for instance). Thanks for considering!
(I could swear I’ve seen this mentioned before on the forum, but couldn’t find it).
Well yes, I think everyone understands that. That’s why I also mentioned it would be nice to have more control over the stuff you don’t want to be shown. That way anyone can adjust what is shown in the status bar to their own preferences and screen size (which you can already do now to some extent).
Showing paragraph styles in addition to what’s already in my screenshot would be too crowded for me as well, so if I had the choice I’d get rid of the time code. I’ll leave it up to the team whether or not that would mean a rethink of the whole thing, but I just thought I’d mention the idea.
I’d like that too, as well as what the font is for text items. Allowing the user to select what is displayed in the status bar might help with there being too much to display. Maybe we need something that allows us to right-click and find out everything about whatever item is selected. Maybe show more about an item in the properties panel (either in the current properties panel or add a new category at the top left of the panel)? I also have no use for the time display. Could staff-attached text be shortened to staff text to allow for more content?
True enough. However it’s done it would be nice to be able to to see information that one can’t find in the properties panel or through any of the right-click menu options.
Surely Dorico is not designed after iPad screen sizes?
Granted, Word is not much wider (InDesign & Illustrator are), but Dorico should stand out as the Premium software it is, in all respects.
Ben, I can’t find a status bar in the iPad version. I think it’s even not existent there.
[edit] I found this in the Dorico blog on version 6 (last paragraph):
Status bar
The information read-out in the status bar at the bottom of the project window has been significantly expanded in Dorico 6, and now includes information about the current page (and the total number of pages in the layout), the timecode position of the selected item and, in the case of multiple selected items, the played duration in minutes and seconds of that selection.
The status bar is included in all members of the Dorico product family, except for Dorico for iPad.
Ah: fair enough. I thought I’d seen something about the Status bar causing problems on smaller windows. But still, the more info, the longer it will be. Personally, I don’t need the time info either, but I’m sure that someone does.
In general, as of Dorico 6.0.20, the status bar summary read-out shouldn’t cause problems with the overall width of the project window, and if there’s insufficient room for the complete description of the selection to appear, it will appear in a tool tip if you hover over the truncated text.
