Question about deep bass clarinet part

I wrote a bass clarinet part which in the full score (treble clef) has an awful lof of ledger lines. In the bass cl part (treble clef) it’s looks fine. Is this ok to notate it like this?

The lowest note in the part (and on the screenshots) is F#2 [42].

Thanks

Normally if a Bass Clarinet is written in Treble clef, will be expected to sound an octave lower (choose that option when setting up the instrument).

Thanks (again) Janus :folded_hands:

I selected “B flat sounds 8va bassa” which removes the extensive amount of ledger lines in the full score, the instrument plays back the same note and the notation in the bass cl. part has it’s notation unchanged

You should use “B Flat Bass Clef Concert pitch” assuming your score is not transposed.

That way the score will show the Bass Clarinet part in bass clef, avoiding all those ledger lines, but the part will be in treble clef (sounding a ninth lower).

Yes. That is also an option. I’m not sure there is a correct option. Just different ones!

Thanks so much, it’s beginning to look a lot like x-mas

Thanks Janus, with bass clef it’s looking more “neat” so if you also agree that’s a viable option I’ll stick with that

I’m always in favour of what looks neat. All the options that Dorico offers are acceptable (somewhere in the musical world) - Please, just make it clear to your players what you expect.
