I see that it is possible to deactivate the license for a Steinberg Licensing based version of a product on an inaccessible computer. Is this true of licenses for e-licenser based versions as well (remote deactivation is possible)?
Also…how do I see on what computers my license for my e-licenser based product (Cubase Artist 7.5) has been activated? I understand that you use the Activation Manager with Steinberg Licensing based licenses.
No. Because it wouldn’t make sense. The licence is on the dongle, not the computer.
Similar answer. You don’t. The licence is on the dongle, not the computer.
I see, I see. So unlike Steinberg Licensing based licenses, there is no limitation on the number of computers on which you can use or have used e-licenser based products? If I’ve installed and used (with the same dongle) Cubase Artist 7.5 on 3 separate computers (to 2 of which I no longer have access), I don’t have to “deactivate” those prior computers’ copies in order to install and use the program on a new computer? Google tells me the limit for activated copies is 3, but I’m realizing this must only apply to Steinberg Licensing based licenses?
This is correct. With the old system, there is just the one licence, which, being on a dongle, can be used on as many computer as you want. Just plug the dongle in.
Be aware that the e-licenser servers shut down this year, for good. So if you want to upgrade to version 14 after the shutdown, you’ll have to pay the full price. But, you’ll still be able to use your current version, as long as the dongle is plugged in.
