Question: Audio Interface Settings [Solved]

I am using the same Audio Interface every day but why is VST not “remembering” the Interface Settings? I have to reassign it on every Program start. Is there a checkbox for this setting somewhere?
I use a Steinbert UR824 Interface.

Splashscreen on Programm start:

Hi @Detgyver !

I ha”d?” the same problem in the past months (AudientEvo8 on WIN11), but testing 2.1.3, my problem seemed to be solved with2.1.3. But just tested once yesterday. Will check today again

Hi @fkalmus ,

Thanks for checking again!
It’s really annoying when the application doesn’t “remember” it. Even if I close the program briefly and then start it again (without making any further changes), I have to manually select the audio driver again.

Cannot reproduce.
It always starts with the last used interface if present.
So tested again

  • start VST Live
  • set “Generic Low Latency Driver”
  • new project
  • exit
  • start: Generic…is selected.
  • set to USB (UAD or UR or whatever device connected)
  • new project
  • exit
  • start: last USB device selected.

What do you do?

VST Live remembers a lot of things:

  • local: last device and Connections
  • for each Port in Connections, it remembers up to 32 assignments (device/port)
  • project: same as local.

The only time I ever need to set something up is when the computer/interface system doesn’t know my device yet; and if a project doesn’t know it. Once set, I can save the project and carry it over to another system, and each port will find its associated connector if present and saved with the project. Save again, open in the other system, never need to change anything.

So what do you do?

Dear @musicullum , you do everithing “correctly” VL is just went back to Generic ASIO (at my setup, since a springtime driver-upd from Audient, we’re at VL1 at that time), but currenctly stopped doin’ this first with 2.1.3.

@Detgyver tested now again, and still remains on “Audient ASIO” as set.
@musicullum p.s.: it “went back” to Generic at app crashes too, but that is an other situation.

Then welcome to the Real-World! This is not working even on my Main-System!

  1. Turn on all devices attached to the computer
  2. Boot the Computer (Windows 11 PRo)
  3. Start VL
  4. I have to select the audio driver (It works exactly the same on the Rehearsal-System! VL does NOT remember this Settings and the Systems are pretty the same to prevent such pitfalls!

Could this be some windows permission things?

Is that still the case? We thought to have caught driver change crashes.
Or are you refering to your older case?

It doesn’t do that on 3 systems here (all Windows 11), and it never has! So there must be something with your system we don’t know about.
You may give us this:
C:\Users(User)\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\VST Live.ini
to have a check.

No so far, but english simple past tense didn’t make it clear forthermore talking about in general: ”In the case of any crash (in the past), it went me back to generic (2.1.3 no crash experienced)”

ok, thanks.

I send the .ini file via email to @Spork

With 2.1.4 the problem is fixed!
After installing the update and starting up version 2.1.4 for the first time the correct audio interface driver was already set correct.
So it seems that earlier version could save the driver settings correct but not read on startup - just a gues!

Thank you all for fixing this problem!!! :+1:
