Question On Creating Drum Map From Instrument

How does Create Drum Map From Instrument work when using kits loaded from Groove Agent 5 SE
When I load a midi drum track created on my Ketron SD1 keyboard and load this midi drum track into Halion Sonic SE,a few of the drum sound don’t play correctly but I have been able to create a new drum map and the drum notes then play correctly.
I don’t understand how to create drum map from instrument, first of all sometimes the selection in the drop down menu is greyed out and I can’t select it.Lets now say that I have been fortunate enough to click and select the create drum map from instrument.
What is supposed to happen ? Does Cubase create the drump map from the midi drum track and route it to the correct drum instruments automatically.
I’m pretty sure that hasn’t been happening
Sorry but I’m just not getting how this function works, many thanks

The instrument in question needs to support this otherwise the option is greyed out. Most likely it works with HALion and Groove Agent.

You can create drum map yourself manually as you discovered.

Yes I’ve got it now, thank you.

It also works with BFD3

I’ve never heard of BFD3,I went to their site and had a quick listen, sounds very good.
Not that I’m starting to get my head around Groove Agent SE 5, I’ve got to be honest and say that I’m not blown away by the quality of the drum sounds straight out the box,I find lot of the sounds quite tinny.
I’m looking for some old fashioned country sounds like the classic train coming along the track beat, but it ain’t in groove agent or Nashville sounds expansion,if you happen to know where I could purchase old style country backing it would be much appreciated.
If you don’t,no worries.
Thanks for BFD3 info

Hi @Hiya.

You could check out Toontrack EZ Drummer, or Toontrack Superior Drummer. They do Country kits and they have a Nashville Kit.

If you do a search, search for something like, Toontrack Nashville demo. You may find a video on YouTube and/or the Toontrack website.

Hi Prim 69 do you know if the toon tracks packs work with groove agent or is it a case of starting from scratch with their software, thanks

Unfortunately, you’ll need to start from scratch.

I’m not too sure if you can use their MIDI Packs’ with Groove Agent without purchasing, and installing their full versioned software. I do know that if you have their software installed, you can grap a Midi file from within the UI, and place it on a Groove Agent track. But GA’s drumkit, may be mapped differently.

I do know, you can not buy their Drum Kits’, and be able to use them without the appropriate software, which are, EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer.

Sometimes, you can grab a bargain when they are on sale. You can sign up to their Newsletter to be notified.

Did you listen to the Nashville Kit?

Yeah Prim 69, I had a listen to Superior Drummer 3 Nashville and I can’t deny it,they do sound a lot more realistic than Groove Agent, apart from the initial outlay, the other problem for me is that I am now starting to understand Groove Agent so the thought of going through a new learning Process is a wee bit too much at my age,I came across a company called Odd grooves and I purchased their country train beats,I think their very good, the only thing is I don’t know how to find THE BRUSHES on Groove Agent SE 5,have you any idea where they are ? Or do I have to buy the Steinberg Jazz Extension pack to get brushes lol, I hope it’s me just being thick and they are already in Groove Agent 5 SE,thanks

Drum VSTis like Superior Drummer and BFD3 seem to me easier to use than Groove Agent which is designed for both triggering loops and also individual hits and samples which makes the overall interface more complicated. Where a VSTi that mimics a drum kit can have a more straightforward & intuitive interface.

I’m struggling to believe it myself but Im genuinely feeling a lot more comfortable with
Groove Agent SE5 for whatever reason I don’t know,it is a badly designed not intuitive interface BUT once you figure out how the bad design works it’s actually a very clever piece of kit.
I think an GUI make over would help the product immensly.

That I’m not to sure of. I must admit, I use Superior Drummer.

As for the Brushes, I’ll have a look in GA to see what I can find, but that would have to be later on tonight.

It’s ok I think I figured it The Brushes Kits are in Halion Sonic SE and not groove agent hmm
