Question on standard practise for fingering notation

Hi, my piece of music has a technical 2-bar section which I’m indicating the appropriate fingering for. This section repeats later in the piece, is it standard practise to leave the fingering out for the second/third times or is it a courtesy to the player to include it for all subsequent occurrences?

Hi Sunny16, In my experience as a guitarist it is standard practice to not restate the fingerings.

It depends how far away the repetitions are.

On the same page, repeating the fingerings is probably unnecessary, or mark the passage “sim.” if there is any doubt whether you really do want the same technical effect. If the repetition is 20 pages later, repeating the fingering is more useful.

But if this is piano music, like your previous question, fingering depends a lot on the individual player and the size and shape of their hands, so unless you are specifying something that applies to every player, maybe you should indicate the effect you want to produce, rather than giving the player a piano lesson!

Got it, thanks!
