In Finale I had a chord C5, in Dorico is comes in as C(omit 3). I know how to change it for one chord in one score, but how do I do this globally?
Welcome to the forum @adam.levowitz
You can find options for the project-wide appearance and position of chord symbols on the Chord Symbols page in Engraving Options .
Does this help?
Welcome to Dorico!
Go to Engraving Rules (āā§E) > Chord Symbols > Intervals. Youāll see two options for an open-fifth chord.
As an aside, you might want to spend a bit of time (if you can spare it!) poking through the various options menus. Theyāre all super clear and give examples of what they do. I think Notation Options and Engraving Options are the most common places for what I do.
Also also, I wanted to say that your instinct here to control things globally as much as possible is exactly right! The biggest key (IMO) in using Dorico effectively is to use as few one-off overrides as possible and change as much globally as you can.
Perfect, that was what I was looking for. Thanks very much! Can I make this as the default behavior for every file that is created and import from xml?
Yep! At the bottom left of the Engraving Options dialogue (and other Options dialogues), youāll see āSave as Defaultā.
Also, you can apply a house style to any existing Dorico document using Doricoās Libraries feature.
Thanks, again. Iāve been using Finale non-stop since 1988ā¦Iām a little bummed out now
Youāre welcome! I totally get it! I think youāll find the community here to be really welcoming and helpful. Sorry youāre having to learn all the new stuff under such pressure.
Itās all good, thanks. That C5 was the first thing I saw on the first score I imported.
Iām actually finishing up an opera right now. The writing and orchestrations are done, and Iām just starting the final edits before handing it off to the copyists. So Iāll probably stick with Finale, but Iām curious to know whatās next.
Close. I needed Global options which I found below. Thanks, though!
Totally understandable, @adam.levowitz! And as @davemacdo says, when you have the time to spend with the first-steps tutorial and other getting started materials, youāll find yourself settling in nicely.
Forum guru @benwiggy posted this lovely thread earlier, which I wish could be permanently pinned to the top for the next week or two to greet our Finale friends:
Why yes, I am frustrated. HOw the hell do I do the following?
Install:
Halion SE 3 - Content
Indian Drum Basics
Olympus Choir Metro
Halion SYmphonic Orchestra
Which pop up as an essential compontent for Dorico Pro? Why isnāt this installed automatically on install of Dorico?
Welcome to the forum, @bkau. Iām sorry that youāre frustrated, but donāt worry ā itās very quick and easy to get these components installed. Run Steinberg Download Assistant, and on the left-hand side, under My Product Downloads, find Dorico Pro 5, then on the right-hand side, click the white Install All button in the top right-hand corner. That will download and install everything you need.
If after doing this youāre still seeing this error message, please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here.
Are the keyboard shortcuts designed for laptop keyboards/keyboards without number pads?
Absolutely! That was a very important consideration from the beginning.
can you use Function keys for shortcuts?
Yes! I have some of my function keys set up for things. Just go to Preferences and then Key Commands.
Does the free Dorico SE 5 have an engraving option?
Hi and welcome @luckeyjulie
No, Iām afraid not.
