Random audio dropout

Hi,

I’m using Cubase Elements 15 and a Focusrite interface and keep having the following issue.

Sometimes Cubase stops recieveing and sending audio. Mid playback audio input aswell as output will simply drop out - Focusrite still registers signal from my guitar or mic, but it isn’t recieved in Cubase and even though my tracks are running I recieve no sound through my output channel. Since I’m new to Cubase I assumed that I was doing something wrong but this will happen at random and without me even touching anything. Sometimes it is fixed by closing and restarting the project, sometimes that doesn’t work either. I’ve tried re-installing everything from scratch, and neither of the updates have done anything to resolve this issue. Any tips?

Hi Dennis, and welcome to the forum!

  1. Are you on Windows or Mac?
  2. Is the Focusrite a USB interface?

I’m using Windows 11 and the Focusrite is connected via USB-C.

It may be caused by the USB host controller that the interface is connected to going into a low-power or “sleep” state, rather than something the software is doing.

In Windows Device Manager, try to find which USB port the Focusrite is connected to, check the properties of the related Host Controller, then “Change Settings”, “Power Management” tab, and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try and see how it goes. Since it’s a randomly occuring issue I won’t know for a while wether it helped or not, but thanks anyway!
