Range Selection, volume changes and fades

When you adjust the volume of an Audio Segment defined using the range selection tool (Cubase Pro 14, p.391), does this automatically apply any kind of auto-fade or crossfade to prevent audio artifacts?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

It doesn’t as far as I know. That’s why I’m always careful not to overdo it. Maybe someone else knows if there’s something going on under the hood that I am not aware of. I’d say there isn’t…
Btw: Good question!

I have an answer:

There will be no glitch, no need for crossfading, or fade in/out, etc. like you would need to do if you did a cut within the audio event.

My test:

I zoomed in as far as I could in the middle of a wave form - down near the sample level, and selected a range. I then manipulated the volume on my selection, and observed the wave form. Cubase keeps the wave form connected cleanly when you add/remove gain this way. There is no step function, no break in the wave form, etc. This does not mean that what you do will always sound “natural”, but that’s more about where you do the range selection gain adjustment than about the fact that you did a cut some kind.

Hey Steinberg engineering, good job!
