Range to Locators as a Range Modifier Option Please

It should be possible to make a range selection between locators on selected tracks without creating a macro?

Or am I missing something?

Do you want ā€œrange to locatorsā€ or do you want a range within less than the locator-range?

I make range selections all the time without locators following (Nuendo 13). I think the function to have locators follow range was added in 14.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding.

I’d like range to locators.

I often find I have my left and right locators in place and I quickly want to create a range that fits them exactly. I can copy and paste the timecode from locator to range field but it’s very slow.

It would be great even if it could be done with a modifier key and a double click as an option for example.

Oh, I see… no idea then…

I’ve cobbled something together with my Streamdeck so I can program delays between actions, but it’s not great as so many parameters need to be toggled to make it work neatly amd even then its messy.

It just seems like such a weird thing to not have.

I’m not sure I understand the issue, isn’t this what ā€˜Cycle follows range selection’ is for?

No.

There are already options to enlarge range to audio events or hit points but not locators.

I use the left and right locators a lot.

I’ll jump to a timecode using Enter Project Cursor Position and drop my left locator then jump to another code and drop a right locator. These are precise codes I have entered.

Then I want to just very quickly go to range mode and double click to have the range duration exactly match the left and right locators.

Say I have a sound edit that I want to duplicate at a different point on the timeline, accurately and quickly. I have a macro that I use to set left and right locators at the start and end of whatever clips I have selected which is done with one key command. Now I want to create a range from that in point to the out point exactly without needing to copy the codes into the range start and end times manually. I use the range tool as I would want to copy automation from non-audio tracks too.

Then I would jump to a new position and, enter new left and right locators, and at this point I like to be able to double click to have a range defined by the new locator point so I can paste my clipboard.

This can currently be done by just clicking and dragging on the timeline with but that lacks precision. I normally need to type the range points in manually at this point which is tedious. Especially if it needs to be done repeatedly.

I do have a number of workarounds for this but they are all relatively time consuming and tedious.

OK. I made a macro that should suffice.

Once left and right locators are defined…

Select range tool

Then the following Key Commands in a macro:

1/ Go to Left Locator
2/ Left Selection Side To Cursor
3/ Go to Right Locator
4/ Right Selection Side To Cursor
5/ Go to Left Locator

I have done this on a Streamdeck so I can include little pauses to allow Nuendo a bit of time to jump around. Can be an issue in large projects.

It would still be nice to have it as a single Range Fill to Locators option though.

Sorry if I don’t get this correctly. Perhaps I’m really dumb and I don’t understand this.
If I have a range selected in my session and want the locators to start and end at the edges of that range I press P (Locators to Selection) and now the locators snap to my range. Is this not what you are trying to achieve in this case as well?

No, I’m asking for the exact opposite. Rather than dragging the mouse to create a range and then having the left / right locators snap to its start and end times, I want to define left and right locator positions and with a single keystroke have the start and end points become exactly the same as the left / right locators.

So using the left and right locators to define the range size, not the other way around.
