Hi,
Looking to know how to record the wah pedals (or effects) in Bias Fx 2 and or THU Overloud in real time when recording, or using automation after recording audio. Both are AU plug-ins as effects inserts on separate tracks, and are being controlled with a midi pedal.
My first attempt did not work using the wah pedal while recording in real time. Second attempt I enable the Write button on the track, but that didn’t work. Next I tried using the automation feature on the track but neither Bias Fx nor THU shows up in the left side panel to assign the wah pedal to automate. Not sure this is possible with these two apps. During playback, I can use and hear the wah pedal, just can’t get it to record. Keep in mind I’m new to Cubasis 3, MIDI, and automation.
Thanks for the info. Been playing around with it. Got it to work to a certain degree with using the automation. Running into some issues trying it live. Seems like I can only do it live if the app is AU which Bias is not but THU is. Only problem with THU is I have the free version and I believe using a midi pedal with THU plug-in is disabled. Works fine in standalone mode. Seems like using the effect midi source track feature works for me. Also been experiencing with a Nembrini wah pedal plugin but it’s buggy. That’s what you get for free stuff I guess.
Can’t seem to get it to record in real time. Only way to do it now is record the guitar part first go back and apply the wah filter and use the automation by drawing it in or using that slider. Even then it’s not recording the Bias fx wah it’s using the Nembrini plugin. I don’t know, it’s beyond my level of Cubasis.
So here’s what I figured out after much trial and error, frustration and coincidence to record the wah pedal in real time.
First, I didn’t realize I needed to have the Read or Write buttons active on the Midi/instrument track in order for the wah pedals (Nembrini and THU) to work even when just playing around and not recording. I thought there was something up with THU Overloud not working as a plug-in since it worked in stand alone mode.
Two, your plug in needs to be an AU. Overloud works since it’s AU, but I can’t get Bias Fx to record since it’s IAA and not AU and I can’t route it to the midi track. See below.
Third, In order to record the THU and Nebrini wah pedals in real time, I needed to route the guitar track to the midi track using the “Effect midi Source Track” route button/feature which is in the top right of the plug in window. Select the arrow and your tracks will appear to select.
Once recorded, remember to disable the tracks “Write” buttons before playback.
Hope this helps someone in the same situation as me.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the community.
Apple introduced the Audio Unit format on iOS many years ago, which offers much more flexibility (compared to IAA) and can be seen as their successor to Inter-App Audio.
If you own IAA-only plug-ins, we strongly recommend to let the app vendors know, you want to see an AU-version of the plug-in (to make them aware about the demand).
Automation in Cubasis should work pretty easy. Enable “W” (Write) when you plan to record automation, and make sure “R” (Read") is enabled, when you want to playback the automation. In addition, the dedicated automation editor lets you further tweak the recorded data.
Below please find links to a few more automation tutorials, which are hopefully helpful.
Enjoy being creative
& stay well,
Lars

Hi Lars!
Happy to help out the group. Not sure why PG is taking so long to get an AU version of Bias FX mobile. I did read somewhere from PG they were working on it and wanted to release it when it was ready and wouldn’t create any issues. Makes sense. Thanks for the video links, I’ll be sure to check them out.
