At the moment, archiving a project with multitimbral VST instruments is nigh on impossible - time consuming and convoluted. For rack instruments in particular, what would transform things is if the VST instrument returns functioned as input monitored record tracks.
When you’ve finished a project, you could then just record those returns you’re using, and switch off input monitoring. All your routing, effects and automation would then still work - it’s a one click job and done.
