I am using a Trial License of VST Live specifically to try out the DMX editing capabilities. Is it possible for VST Live to record DMX information being sent from another program within the same computer? I use Entec D-Pro for programming lighting cues and sequences and I’m able to send the data to an L8 visualizer within my computer using ArtNet. However, when I set VST Live to record from ArtNet it doesn’t receive any information from D-Pro.
would say yes, but not as trivial… with two network interfaces at least (if one app reserves ArtNet, in my experience wouldn’t become accessible for another prg)… so with a temporary second computer or two network interfaces
Thank-you for the information. I hooked up a USB to Ethernet adapter and after a bit of experimenting I was able to get VST Live to receive DMX information from another program in the same computer, although not from D-Pro.
Once I hooked up the USB adapter and plugged it into my router another program I use, Enttec ELM saw the new adapter and I was able to change its output to use it. Changing my source to the USB adapter now shows DMX information flowing into VST Live.
D-Pro does not give you an option to select which network interface to use and defaults to the built-in network card. I could not find an option in VST Live to select a network interface, so it appears to default to the built-in network card as well. Having that option in VST Live would be great for me and anyone else who wants to record from another program in which you can’t choose which network interface to use.

A few time ago devs was adding an Artnet configuration page where you can set the transmitting and receiving IP and port I suppose, setting the receive on 127.0.0.1 or the local network broadcast address should enable receiving dmx from programs on same pc and same lan adapter … I have been able to send from VST and receive on QLC+ on same adapter but not the opposite…
@Spork any update on that config page?
Cheers, Ciro.
Actually I don’t know how VL decides which interface to use (e.g. when connecting an USB2ETH, it uses that one). Hopefully we will see the advanced ArtNet settings panel in a future iteration on VL
