I an on VSTL 2. I have DMX cues set up in MagicQ that I would like to busk into VSTL. I can add the art net in but there is no way I can see to set the IP information to set up an internal loop back from MagicQ (I can see MagicQ sending packets). Is this possible or do I need to send the midi information out through an interface and back into an interface (or from one computer to another)? Preferably would love to do it all internally if possible. TIA!
did you try localhost already? IP 127.0.0.1
I tried that IP in MagicQ, turned off wireless networking and tried to manually set my computer to that IP address. That was the best AI could instruct me. Any tips? Thank you!
I think we’ve been here before - that DMX couldn’t be picked up as an input from the same pc that was generating it. We ended up sending from a separate PC. You can run VSTL on 3 machines.
I do have a distant recollection that someone made it work - maybe you should search the forum.
Maybe you could cheat by using a virtual machine to send the dmx as it would have its own ip address.
Another idea would be to send MagicQ to a broadcast address - eg if your ip is 192.168.1.100 send to 192.168.0.0. Haven’t tried it myself.
I have multiple USB dongles so might just send one to another. You’d think there would be a way to use loopback on OSX, though.
I don't have a MagicQ, but I create my light show with Daslight 5.
I work with macOS and first created a separate MIDI port for each
Fixtures in the MIDI setup. These ports can then be accessed in
any DAW. I initially edit the song's timeline in a DAW that communicates
with Daslight via MIDI. Once everything is ready,
I either capture the DMX signal in VST Live via ArtNet or
import MIDI tracks from the DAW into
VST Live, and then trigger everything in Daslight.
For me, this is the perfect way, and everything runs on one computer.
Thanks, I may also just send MTC to MagicQ, but not sure if my M3 max will run both programs at the same time. We’ll see.
