Recording error: audio drop out detected CONSTANTLY

I really need help, please
I’m trying to play my electric guitar in Cubase Elements 14 with an audio interface (ZOOM AMS 24)

Every few seconds, there’s an audio dropout. It happens even if I’m not recording, which is problematic enough, but it also happens when I’m recording, and when it does, the recording stops. It’s a serious issue that prevents me from producing tracks longer than a few seconds. Even if I won’t record it, it will happen, and the sound cuts off and then returns. Sometimes there’s a good 2 to 3 minutes without it happening.
I don’t have the original USB-C cable that came with the Zoom Ams24, but I’m using a cable that looks strong and good. I’m using a laptop with only 2 USB ports - one on each side (tried both of them).
I already sent it to the lab of the store I bought it from, and they just gave me a new one, but it still happens. It started when I used it after months of not using it. I can’t remember for sure, but I think it’s also when I couldn’t find the original cable and used another USB-C cable I found (maybe that’s the problem? I don’t know)
I’ve talked to ChatGPT and tried all sorts of settings in Cubase, but nothing works. Please, if anyone has any idea what to do, or maybe even chat with me on Discord, and I’ll share my screen and zero in on the problem. This isn’t a problem I can ignore; it’s actually preventing me from doing what I need. I’m lost :frowning:

It doesn’t matter how strong and good looking it is if it’s made to be a phone charger cable. You need to buy one that is specifically rated for DATA.

ill go buy a cable when i get off work. what do i ask for specifically? will they get me if i just say usb-c cable for data? im afraid to buy a cable that will continue to make this dropout

Depends where you buy…. If you’re in a computer or electronics shop I would hope they’ll get it. Also keep it short. 2m is recommended maximum though you might be ok with longer in a high quality cable.

It may help to explicitly state you are not using it for charging a device, but to transfer data. Just saying “for data” may not be enough.
