Recording midi onto a track

hello, I am practicing recording the midi sounds from a built in synthesiser (Retrologue2) onto a channel, I have followed the instructions to the letter (I hope) from the videos that came with the software, however when I press record and play the synths keyboard the channel is metering the sound but its not recording for playback and in fact disappears from the sequencer.

Hello, do you have the record-enable checked (it should be red):

hello and thank you replying, yes I did have it on, I scrutinised the online video and copied everything he was doing, the levels on the channel activate so its receiving the signal but not recording and when I stop recording, it disappears.

If I’m reading you right, you can’t record MIDI data by pressing the keyboard in the Retrologue itself. That’s solely for previewing the sound.

Either use an external MIDI keyboard, or Cubase’s on-screen keyboard (by either shortcut Alt+K, or accessing it under Studio menu). (Or write them with mouse on the piano roll)

Basically you can record the sound of you playing Retrologue’s keyboard by sending Retrologue’s audio return to a Group track, and then using the Group track as the input of an Audio track. But you can’t record MIDI data that you could modify later on.

Thank you very much for your time.
