recording modulation

What is the most effective way of recording this info? What I did do is record then ‘overdub’? just with the mod wheel. Then, on mouse over, I see I get the hatched lines.
So,
Is that a good way?, and if so, how do I merge the two bits, or is there an easier way.

“Bounce MIDI”, with both MIDI parts selected, should merge them for you.

Glue them together, much simpler.
