Recording multiple alt. takes, instead of multiple layers?

Hi there, new to Cubasis 3 here. Loving it so far, except for one thing.

I am wondering if there is a way to record multiple takes on a single channel, which when played back only the top take will be heard. Currently, all the takes are played back overlaid. To audition a take, I am required to manually move it to a new channel. I see that an option is provided for muting previous takes during recording, but not for playback.

Am I missing something? If not, I’d love to see this in a future update.

Thanks,
Dimitris

Hi @Dimitris_Plagiannis

Thanks for your message.,

Audio tracks in Cubasis work similar to a looper currently.

I am wondering if there is a way to record multiple takes on a single channel, which when played back only the top take will be heard.

Please give it a try to disable the “Play Audio Tracks While Recording” option, located under “Setup/Audio”.

Hope that helps.

Best,
Lars

Thanks. I already disabled that option and that allows me to record and monitor the new take without listening to the old ones. But it doesn’t help reviewing the take after recording it.

I appreciate the looper functionality but it would be great if there was an additional option for auto-muting previous underlaid takes. This option together with existing features, such as 24bit/96kHz and USB interface compatibility, would make Cubasis the best portable tracking DAW as well!

Hi @Dimitris_Plagiannis

We consider adding the additional option at some point in the future.

For now, it might help to create a second audio track (or more) where you can review recorded while leaving the cycle recordings on a muted track above or below.

Hope that helps.

Best,
Lars
