Recording project window looks distorted

Hi All
New 10.5 elements install
When Recording or viewing an imported wav, in the project window, it appears distorted and too loud
When I check in the Inspector window, wav displays at correct level.
This is confusing when recording
is it a setup issue

There is a little vertical slider on the upper right side of the Project Window that controls the zoom on the wave display.
