recording without an audio interface

hello, im trying some VST’s and Midi’s to learn my way around recording, so far the only way to record has been to draw an area with the pencil tool, double-clicking on it and entering the events one by one with the mouse cursor, i cannot record by actually playing the VST pads and keys directly on the VST interface,

i have been watching the tutorials and follow them step by step, it just won’t record…
any ideas ?

You can’t actually record from the keyboard/pads on a vsti gui.

You could try the Cubase Virtual Keyboard but it’s quite limited.
