Rectangular and Frequency selection should solo when using as ARA (reaper)

Using spectralayers as an ARA plug in reaper :Playing back a rectangular or frequency selection in spectralayers doesn’t solo just the selection. It does in the standalone version.

IMHO this should happen in both versions as it’s incredibly useful to isolate certain frequencies.

I’ve reported it as a bug but got a reply “works as intended”.

EDIT: This is using reaper

It works as intended here, meaning it does solo the selection when using Frequency Selection.

Are you sure you aren’t monitoring anything else along with the selection? Like other tracks, other parent layers, things like that?

Oh! When using it as an ARA plugin? Steinberg support had the same result as me…

(Just realised - I didn’t mention this was using Reaper)

To reproduce:

Insert Spectralayers VST3 as a plug in on a media item (audio file).

Make a rectangular selection of a small range of frequencies.

Play back that section using reapers transport controls.

Expected result: Selected frequencies only are played back.

Actual result: All frequencies are played back.

Yes, using ARA! but in Nuendo. So possibly a Reaper-specific issue.

They absolutely can’t say that this is intended behavior! Selection solo is like a core functionality of SL. Hey @Robin_Lobel please instruct Steinberg Support! =)

Not that the behavior changes in this case, but just to be thorough, in the context of Spectralayers this is not the same as “Frequency Selection” as you said in your first post. This is “rectangular selection.” Frequency selection is a specific mode of selection and when troubleshooting or reporting a bug these are not interchangeable terms!

Thanks! Ah - maybe reaper then.

Strange though that they say it’s intended. Even if it’s a fault of reaper’s it’s still not intended is it?

Support actually said it was the devs who closed it as “works as intended”

Thanks for the clarification on “frequency selection” vs “rectangular”. I’ll edit my post a bit more.

I tested both types of selection. Both solo in the standalone and neither solo in the ARA version.

No problem!

yeah, very strange indeed! Definitely not normal behavior.

I’m sure Robin will take a look here soon. =)
