I am trying to install Dorico Pro5 on a brand new computer however I do not have access to the elicenser that is being asked for. I purchased Dorico Pro 5 in January of 2024 and several months later I had to return the computer that it was originally installed on. In that time frame I have not installed Dorico on any other machines. Now I have a new computer that I would like to install Dorico Pro 5 on. Do I need to install the Download Assistant first? Also, I don’t have the Access codes. Where or what do I start with first? Any help as to the proper steps involved would be appreciated.
Happy New Year @ArteFactual.
Dorico 5 does not need the eLicenser any more, it is only used when you have some old Steinberg software or contents files that have not been updated to the new Steinberg Licenser. Most likely you don’t need the eLicenser any more.
But it still gets installed together with the Steinberg Download Assistant. It is a part of the common Steinberg runtime environment. But many other things of that environment are definitely needed for Dorico 5 (e.g. the new MediaBay4All) and therefore yes, you need to install the Download Assistant first.
And you can install Dorico on any number of computers, but you can only use it on 3 different machines at the same time. You can download and install without the Access Code, but via the Steinberg Activation Manager you can activate the Dorico license on 3 different machines.
Does this makes it clearer to you?
How about already having Dorico Pro on my laptop & wanting to download Dorico on my iPad? The process is wanting to charge me. How do I connect the new iPad version for free with my already licensed version on my laptop? Especially if they are doing away with licensing? Thank you.
Stan
There’s no link between “Desktop” Dorico’s licence and the iPad version. You can download the iPad app for free, and it works like Dorico SE. If you pay the (very cheap) subscription, then it works like Dorico Elements. Or you can pay a one-time fee for “lifetime” access.
But the Pro features still aren’t available.
Steinberg aren’t “doing away with licensing”; they have just changed from one old licensing system to a new one.
