I saw that there’s a Learn Mode under “Quick Controls” in the Inspector. This works reliably with all the knobs on regular inserts. Okay, the UR816 doesn’t appear under the inserts, but it has its own entry in the Inspector. There I can display and use the “Morphing Channel Strip,” for example. Unfortunately, the Learn Mode doesn’t respond to the controls here.
I’ve also tried using MIDI Remote. I can assign anything to my MIDI controller (Novation Launchkey), but nothing works in the UR816C windows.
Is there another way to remotely control the “Morphing Channel Strip”?
In search of a solution, I decided to try direct monitoring on the UR816C again. The mixer’s controls can indeed be controlled remotely, but doing so would destroy all important Cubase functions. To this day, I still don’t understand what direct monitoring is actually for on the UR816C. The dspMixFX software controls everything that’s needed. Moving the dspMixFX software’s controls to the Cubase mixer through direct monitoring, thereby destroying countless Cubase features, is more of a disadvantage. Even chatgpt recommends disabling it 
Direct monitoring is not a solution to the remote control problem.
I have the feeling that there is definitely no remote control option…
