Remote Midi Trigger / Is Akai MPK Mini a good choice?

Hi
I just like to trigger CUBASE 14 Recording IN and OUT when I play in the room, far from te PC. I heard that I could do that with an AKAI Mini MPK. However CUBASE seems not to recognize my old AKAI Mini MPK, although it is connected USB and accepts KeyNotes inputs in Finale/Dorico. I see that Cubase recognises Remote controller Akai Mini MPK Mark 3. It’s not abig deal to buy it. However I don’t see exxactly where are the TRANSPORT controllers to trigger CUBASE remote. Also Is it possible to use it Wi_fi, or BLUETOOTH beacause I guess I shall not use a USB cable. Or maybe there are easier solutions? Thanks for the help.

Hi!

AKAI MPK Mini
You can assign key commands and assign them to the Pad banks (2 × 8). That definetly work via USB.. You could also do that with any other simple MIDI device depending on the amount of trouble you want to go through if there’s no default script for said device (like there is for the MPK). You could also use a Stream Deck for that matter.
Bluetooth or Wifi is not possible with these devices.

As far as a Remote via Wifi is concerned, that would be Cubasis IC Pro. Cubase iC Pro: Remote Control App for iOS | Steinberg
Ideally. However, there have been many reports about issues with that software. I have not tested it myself but have a look at the Cubasis IC department in this forum to get an overview yourself.

Another simple idea to set up a remote to control Record is to use a Bluetooth mouse with assignable keys. That would be the easiest and cheapest way to set up a remote with just two commands.

Hope that helps!

Yes that is exactly what I had in mind.

Do you have a particular device in mind that I coud buy? And then how would I assign it to Cubase 14.

Many thanks again

Anytime :+1:
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend a specific model because I have not set up my system like that.
I know that there are huge differences between different manufactorers and models with respect to the integration of these functions (e.g. additional software, activating these functions with/without keyboard). Hence, the choice of the model is very important. Maybe someone else with that kind of setup can chime in? It’s better to go with a sound recommendation based on actual experience rather than me suggesting anything by reading product specifications.
Still, setting it up with a mouse seems to be the easiest and cost-conscious way to get what you want.

Good luck and please keep us in the loop!

A Bluetooth computer keyboard or maybe even just a Bluetooth Numeric Keypad may also be alternatives to send Cubase commands from across the room.

Thank you, I shall try
