Remote start/stop of VST Live with Roland SPD-SX

Hi there,
Question; I want our drummer to start/stop a song in VST Live with his Roland SPD-SX. For sure I have to connect the midi in/out of both, but how do I set-up the devices? The VST Live manual only mentions under “transport” there is a “MTC OUT” item where you can select a midi port and thats it. Not sure if MTC can be used for start/stop functions.
Any ideas??

see Devices / Actions and Shortcuts

Usually SPDs can output Note On messages. To be used as your trigger in Actions and Shortcuts. Set a pad to a specific note not used elsewhere.

Tnx, will check that

On your SPD-SX decide which pad is START and which is STOP. Assign each of them to a unique midi note that is not used elsewhere.

Then, Go to Actions & Shortcuts.

Click on (I think) row 5 where it says START.
Then click LEARN on the top left
Then hit the pad you want to be the START pad on your SPD.
Do the same for STOP.

MTC is MIDI TimeCode and used to synchronise external devices like sequencers and light controllers.

Look at Devices/Connections to set your physical MIDI I/O. Then use Devices/Actions to map the device CC to a specific Action as @birdmug and @fkalmus suggested.
