Removing eLicenser?

Hi @Jean_Mirre ,
I had a look at the dmp file and the main problem doesn’t have to do with the eLicenser at all (although the tip from @JuergenP is good! :+1:). Cubase seems to crash when trying to talk to our license engine. This is a recently known issue which should only happen if you either ran the Activation Manager or Cubase as Administrator before or your Activation Manager installation is broken. But I think it’s more likely that you accidentally ran as Administrator… could that be the case?
So please, reboot your system or quit the SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe via the Task Manager and try again.

Yes it’s true, I run as administrator. So what should I do instead?

Don’t run Cubase or the Activation Manager as Administrator, because they subsequently launch our license engine as Administrator which leads to problems.
As I said, make sure that you start clean, either by rebooting your system or quitting the SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe via the Windows Task Manager. Cubase should work then.

Do then I need to “désactiver l’héritage” (sorry it’s in french) found in the propriétés of Activation Manager that allows it to open as administrator?

I just had to look up where this setting is hidden. Best would be that you don’t alter any of the preferences of the Activation Manager. Just make sure that it doesn’t run as admin.

ok, thank you for your kind help !

Hi again, do you think I should disconnect the activation manager so Cubase would work correctly?

By disconnect you mean closing the Activation Manager? It doesn’t affect Cubase. Do you still have problems running Cubase?

I don’t know how to close the activation manager without disconnecting it. I’ve had a problem with opening Cubase for a few weeks now. It works correctly in the morning but then refuses to open for some unknown reason during the day. Then I have do restart the computer and it works fine again.

Would it be this ? So if I turn this off, Cubase will run fine?

This setting shouldn’t cause any issues.
Next time you have problems running Cubase you could go into Steinberg Activation Manager and create a diagnostic report (see screenshot) and upload the resulting zip file here.

When you say close the application manager, do you mean “sign out” ? The french for it is “Déconnexion” so my mystaking.

This still looks like the SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe is running as Admin.
Please make sure that you haven’t altered any of the Activation Manager preferences. Maybe it’s even easier in this case to uninstall the Activation Manager and install it again (by launching Steinberg Download Assistant).
You can even verify this by checking the Windows Task Manager Details tab next time you run into this problem. You can see there if the SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe is running ‘Elevated’ (‘Élevé in french’, see attached screenshot). You might need to select that this column is visible.

I think this is a misunderstanding. You don’t need to sign out and you don’t need to close the Activation Manager.

Thank you SKnapp, you’re right I altered (stupidly) the Activation Manager Preferences. So I uploaded it again, installed it.
How do I now change the SteinbergLicenceEngine.exe preferences? Or do I need to do that?

If you haven’t actively touched the preferences of the SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe you don’t need to do anything.
But I’m afraid that reinstalling the Activation Manager doesn’t revert the preferences (at least the Admin preference). I just tested this myself.
Do you remember what preferences you changed? If you changed the Activation Manager or Cubase to run as Admin, Windows actually asks you everytime for permission, when you try to run the app, so you should be able to notice which one you need to change.

I don’t know how to change this. If I refuse the authorization for this administrator,I am afraid of the result!!

Does Windows ask you for permission when you launch the Activation Manager?
