Do we still need the eLicenser on our computer or can we just delete it ?
Hi,
If all your licenses are based on the Steinberg Activation Manager, you can install it.
Unfortunately, the Steinberg Download Assistant installs it automatically again, once you start it. Do you would need to stop it all the time.
Thanks but not sure I understand. My Steinberg Activation Manager shows my activated products. But it sometimes doesn’t open . Is it due to the “old” eLicenser conflicting? And if so, can I just delete it completely since it’s obsolete?
You can delete it but the next time you open the Download Assistant it will just re-install it.
Thank you. It seems to interfere with the Cubase application (Cubase Elements 13) that often doesn’t open unless I reboot my computer.Would that be the cause of the problem?
No. All the editions of Cubase 13 are entirely independent of the eLicense.
Thank you Raino. Any idea of what causes this problem then?
Hi,
Does it mean it freezes? Do you have any *.dmp/ips file available?
It doesn’t freeze, it just says the licence engine access is causing the problem .When I reboot, it’s all fine again.
Cubase LE AI Elements 13.0.41 64bit2024.9.14 20.21.42.871.dmp (223,0 Ko)
It seems this is a problem that more and more users are complaining about. I also get random error messages about activation missing and e-licenser error messages. Yes, you can uninstall the e-licenser software, but as stated it will auto-install itself every time you start the download assistant. I also can do a restart to make it go away, then it comes back at some point - and you must do it all over again. When the e-licenser software is uninstalled these errors do NOT appear, but Steinberg refuses to listen or fix this. The easy solution would be to install this software when you install software that requires e-licenser but I am sure this is easier for Steinberg to just force it upon everybody even if they announced this is a dead copy protection scheme.
Thank you Glenn. What do you think I should do? Just keep on using it as it is even though I know it will need a restart at some stage? And wait for Steinberg to act ?
yeah just keep it. I like to uninstall it just after Cubase updates because then I know most likely there will be a while before I update again but then again I have so many other Steinberg products so it is not a bulletproof strategy
Uninstall the dongle software and avoid the DA as much as possible, and try downloading from the website.
ok thank you, I hope it will work if I do that
Well, as I expected, it still doesn’t work. I uninstalled the eLicenser, I haven’t used the DA.What is wrong this time?
Well, now you are running into trouble because of the missing eLicenser code.
The code tries to create some service for the eLicenser and that seems to be not available.
It is not just the Download Assistant that install the Control Center, there are still internal links in the software. Just keep the eLicenser Control Center until the service ends next year, there will probably be some update that removes it then.
I don’t understand why it is so important to remove this tiny piece of code, but anyway, have a look here.
Hi and thank you . Found that json file but (sorry) I don’t know how to open it?!
It is a text file, just notepad. But be careful to not modify so that the structure gets destroyed.
Make sure you have a copy before you start editing.
Sorry, if I change the true to false , am I not modifying it?
