REQUEST to edit FONT for Right Hand Guitar ( plucked ... p i m a ) Fingerings separate from Numbered

Hello all! This is my first post coming from GVOX / Passport Music Time / Encore since 1996 ( now dead but being resuscitated apparently ) after $pending many dollar$ and pe$o$ over the years buying ( but never really able to use or get my head around ) Finale, Sibelius, Notation , StaffPad, & NotateMe.

Dorico IS AMAZING, and is a breath of fresh air in getting scores to look great and customize SO MANY options (more) EASILY than Finale or Sibelius, AND with LESS automatic clashing and bugs (and the lack of UNDO) in the simple/but-quick Encore.

But, as a Classical Guitarist (among many other music jobs), I need some new features to be able to have Font Style options, and Engraving / Layout Options to choose the style, placement of both Left hand fingerings ( Numbers 1 - 4 ) and Right Hand Fingerings ( called/referred to as “Plucked Fingerings” if I am correct?) for Classical Guitar.

[ FYI, I’d like to include some SCREENSHOTS to attach here, but I am assuming I need to first CREATE this topic and then reply? We’ll see … ]

Here is the Procedure that I am currently doing in wanting to change the style of the Fingering Font…

Procedure

  1. MENU BAR > Library > Font Styles > Fingering Text Font

  2. then changing to an alternate FONT SIZE as I really like the look for the default Acamedico font

  3. Then … Engraving Options > Fingering > Design > change Bold Font to Plain

Doing the above procedure, the font size DOES change to BOTH the Left Hand AND Right Hand ( plucked ) fingerings, but, the Right Hand fingerings lose the italics which is CRUCIAL visually as most Classical Guitar publications do indeed distinguish L & R Hand Fingering Fonts with RH being in Italic.

IMPORTANT: Yes, I HAVE INDEED changed the Fingering Font ( which is DIFFERENT from the Fingering Text Font (<<< which confuses me GREATLY! Please explain WHY there is a difference! and have changed the SIZE but it changes BOTH the LH & RH Size.

ALSO IMPORTANT (Properties Panel): Yes, I know you can click the EACH INDIVIDUAL fingering that you want and go to the Properties Panel (Cmd + 8 on Mac) and change the SCALE (size) of the font, BUT, it will ….

  1. ONLY ever affect the LEFT HAND fingerings but NOT the RH Fingerings

  2. Clicking “Globally”, “All” does NOTHING (at least from what I am seeing)
as it ONLY changes the Properties of what you clicked on.

  3. You have to click EACH fingering LINE by LINE which would take FOREVER!!! <<<< I completely understand that Dorico makes it WAY MORE convenient than doing it by hand, but we SO VERY MUCH need a Global Option for this and have the Properties panel be used ONLY as a Click by Click, Note by Note Option.

The issue with most Classical Guitar Publications of the past is that fingerings are too SMALL, and ( I am assuming ) in the case of older Engraving Programs/Apps/Stensuls/etc., the mere task of getting them to look right and shifting EVERYTHING (the notes, the staves, the measures, measures per system) in getting Classical Guitar Fingerings would lead the Engraver to have to have a Score/Publication with notes and fingerings (SUFFICIENTLY) BIG ENOUGH, there might only be 1 measure per system.

In the (very recent) past, most publications (not just classical guitar publications) just have had to settle on whether to FIT as much as they can on as little pages as possible so PRINTER costs don’t get too high or a score that is actual readable. In the CURRENT/RECENT ERA, with most going digital and reading on tablets and being able to make scores that are through composed (rather than Verse to Refrain, 1st ending, 2nd ending <<< which is totally valid and needed) and having the OPTION to make scores with as big of a note size as you need ( and reading/studying that score with FORWARD CLICKS) on as many pages as you need to SEE the music.

So, this is my REQUEST:

REQUEST 1:
To be able to have the option to GLOBALLY manage/change the font (size, color, style), the Right Hand (Plucked) Fingerings SEPARATELY from the LH. If there is such an option, I can’t find it.

Once again Yes, I HAVE INDEED changed the Fingering Font ( which is DIFFERENT from the Fingering Text Font (<<< which confuses me GREATLY! Please explain WHY there is a difference! and have changed the SIZE but it changes BOTH the LH & RH Size, but control over each size.

REQUEST 1:
To be able to have the option to GLOBALLY change the POSITION of the Right Hand ….. PLEASE see the Screenshot that I HOPEFULLY can add below with the Properties Panel open showing the positioning that I wish to have for the LH Fingerings (to the left of each note) and the RH Fingerings (to the BOTTOM of the notes) as (since SPACE and readability/intelligibility are BOTH very SACRED in a classical guitar score) above the Score, I do not want to visually muck up that area as that I need earmarked (eye marked?) for Chord Symbols (yes, I need Chord Symbols when playing alongside NON classical guitarists), Barre Chord Roman Numerals and Articulations, etc.

I have checked this forum but it does not provide a solution for what I would like to do: How to universally change fingering size? - #5 by Lillie_Harris

In any case, any help or guidance is greatly appreciated from the Dorico community. Thanks a million!

Ah HA! The PAPERCLIP above! Of COURSE that means ATTACH SOMETHING, right? Ummm, nope … the UP ARROW thingy? SUITE!!!

Here is the process I did mentioned above in my main post …

MENU BAR > Library > Font Styles > Fingering Text Font

Changing the SIZE of the Fingering Text Font takes AWAY the Italic of the Right Hand Fingering which is needed…

Changing to ITALIC for ONLY the Right Hand Fingerings in the Properties Panel will ONLY make the LEFT HAND Fingerings Italic …

And ALSO, the PROPERTIES PANEL will ONLY affect the LEFT HAND fingering Scale/Size and does NOT affect the Right Hand …

“Globally”, “All” does NOTHING
