I’m new to Dorico, so trying to get in the habit of some best-practices.
I have a Player who will play a combination of drums, other non-pitch percussion, and some pitched percussion (this is a theater orchestration), and want to have a combined continuous 5-line part.
I have watched some great tutorials online, and they mention creating percussion kits: Create a player and add all the instruments that the player will play. Then combine the 1-line notation players into a percussion kit. This solves the problem of having a mix between 5-line and 1-line staves, but no longer handles the instrument change labels as well - and requires overriding the change and instrument labels.
Could I not just create some new versions of the 1-line percussion instruments to have 5 lines in my template (basically create separate percussion layouts for each instrument, and including just the single instruments in those layouts - kind of like the way Dorico already does for things like Temple Blocks). This would leave Dorico to automatically take care of the instrument changes and labels. What are the pitfalls here? Is there an easier way to convert/force the 1-line percussion instruments to be 5-lines?
Would love any advice on this or perhaps even some bigger-picture ideas. Thanks in advance.
