Resize Graphic

Followed the Anthony Hughes video on creating a title page. I need to enlarge the imported graphic. Video just says “tweek it”. How do you do this? I need to fill up half the page with the imported graphic.

Just select the Frames tool, then click and drag the edges or corners of your graphic frame to resize it.

Thank you. The frames tool I assume is the square surrounded by smaller squares intended for dragging. This will allow me to go smaller, but does not allow me to go large enough to fill up the bottom half of my page. I assume that I should be in engrave mode. I am running Dorico Pro.

What do you mean by this? Can you attach your project file?

Sorry, but for reasons I do not understand I am not yet allowed to attach a file due to my “newness” with Dorico.

Oh, it’s actually your newness on the forum, not in terms of working with the app.

Okay, can you describe a little more what you mean by “does not allow me to go large enough”? When you’re resizing the frame, does it just stop at some point? Can you take a screenshot and paste it in your reply?

I have a stock logo which appears on the cover page of all my music. If you have the time to look, all my self published works can be seen in the My Score division of jwpepper.com. (Just go to jwpepper.com and search larry wurtzel). When I used Finale, you placed the graphic on the page and resized it to need by dragging. Now in Dorico, I have gotten through the Anthony Hughes tutorial up to the point of resizing the graphic that I placed on the page, however it does not address how to accomplish this. He shows a frame toggle switch, but I do not have this or at least I can’t find it. I have been able to adjust text boxes on the title page, but the graphic can only be made smaller. Seems like it should be a simple process, but I am obviously missing something.

It’s hard to know exactly what’s going on if you can’t provide your exact image, or a screenshot of Dorico so I can see what you’re describing. I took a screenshot of your logo and was able to get it to fill most of the page in a Dorico template.

@larrywurtzel Can you upload your project to Dropbox or something?

@larrywurtzel You should remove your email address from your last post. I’ll message you separately about how to reach me.

Sorry for chiming in: Is it possible you want to extend your graphic beyond the page margins?
I might be wrong, I don’t know whether that’s possible.
I am not at a computer here, so I wonder how one can one use smaller page margins for a title page template than for the following pages.

Thanks for chiming in! I think that it might have something to do with margins. I tried the whole process again and was able to partially enlarge the graphic by dragging the small pink boxes that surround the graphic, but they don’t allow me to drag past the margins to make the graphic as large as it needs to be.

Right, page margins in Dorico are hard limits, and they’re set per layout (not per page or per template). You could make the page margins narrower for the whole layout, but then you’d have to adjust the other frames on the page so that they go back to their original positions instead of adjusting to the new margins.

Another option would be to create a custom layout that only contains your title page; you could set different margins for this page only. The downside is that the title page wouldn’t print directly on your score or parts – you’d need to print it separately, onto the same paper (or merge the PDFs). It’s pretty much like making your title page in Word/InDesign/etc., except that it stays in the same file as the music.

I would like to experiment with changing the margins. How do you do this?

Layout Options>Page Setup

Larry, if you like your graphic to cover the whole page, it might be easier to do the Title page in a dtp application and add it later to the pdf.

Thanks, What is a dtp application?

Desktop publishing. InDesign, MS Publisher (yuck), or Affinity Publisher.

Thank you, I have no experience with any of these. I’ll check them out.
