Respell accidentals while inputting notes

Sorry if this has been asked before – I couldn’t find any answers.
When inputting notes via MIDI-Keyboard I have to leave input-Mode (press enter) and select the last note by mouse in order to respell it. Is there any easier solution? Is it possible to respell the last accidential without leaving input-mode? Or at least to have the last note or chord selected when leaving input-mode? Wouldn’t it be great, if we could tell Dorico that we want it to spell the next note as flat or sharp BEFORE inputting it?
Thanks in advance,
Ben

Whilst in Input mode, each note entered is selected as you enter it. So you should be able to press Alt - or = to change the enharmonic, without leaving input mode, on the selected note (e.g. the note you just entered).

Of course, it’s also worth remembering that Dorico may change the spelling, depending on what note you enter next. E.g. in a key with sharps, an F natural might become an E sharp on the way down a whole tone scale from G.

Thank you very much for your immediate answer!
You are totally right – as far as duration before pitch input is concerned. I prefer pitch before duration – especially when I have to play around with notes in order to find out what I am to write down. In pitch before duration input, the last note is not selected. Wouldn’t this be a great feature for future versions?

When you play notes in on a MIDI keyboard, you don’t have the same specificity over the notes as you do when using a computer keyboard: the same key on the MIDI keyboard can be either F# or Gb, it depends on the context which one you want, and Dorico isn’t psychic!

There’s an option for Dorico Pro users to disable automatic respelling, but you might find that leaving the notes until you’ve finished the whole phrase with that option activated might end up with the correct accidentals anyway? Once you’ve given Dorico more context about what notes come after, that is.

It should be.

Perhaps there’s a setting somewhere…

May be. But where?
I’m still on Dorico 4. Maybe with D5 this has changed??

Ha! I found it!

Specify accidential etc. AFTER inputting notes has to be selected.
