Rests default alignment

Hi, I work a lot with guitar notation. I usually use 2-4 voices. Dorico is very good at adjusting notes but not so good at adjusting rests (see screenshot). Can this be controlled in some kind of “engraving rules”? I usually work in a template.

Have a look at Notation Options > and then Rests > and then Rest Positioning

Hi @jonasmollberg, I tried the suggestion by @TonH, but it seems there are no useful Notation options to influence such cases as desired.

It is interesting to compare the results using different middle voice (Down-stem voice 1 vs Up-stem voice 2). The rests are better in the second bar in the first case, and better in the first bar in the second case (besides of course the different stem directions).

So I think it is a compromise (for the time being): use the voice that gives you the best result then select the bars whose rests are not where you want, and activate the rest position override in the Properties panel (assigning the desired value). Alternatively use the voice that give you the desired rest position, and flip the stems if needed:

Dorico file example (for whom would like to experiment further):

Hi and thanks for your answer. I couldn’t recreate the same thing as you - that is, the breaks adjust when you flip the middle part. Don’t know why? I use the Properties panel but it’s a cumbersome solution. It’s also strange that you can’t adjust them manually by just dragging them.

You don’t „flip“ the middle Voice but you need to assign it to a new Voice (select the notes>right Click> Voices > change Voice) as indicated in my screenshot.
