Hi folks,
Just a little bit of feedback on the video playback window in its current state. It could use some work to fit better into modern cinema scoring workflows and general modern application conventions.
- It would be really nice to be able to minimise the video window when working on other things. (E.g. Configuring Drum or Expression maps, controller maps, etc.) You could also add a context-sensitive full screen/windowed toggle on the playback window’s chrome (i.e. in the top right hand corner) using OS-provided chrome controls.
- In a multi-docked application like Cubase that allows you to undock and move other stuff around to suit a user’s preferences, the fact that there’s now way to dock the Video playback window seems to be an odd choice/omission. It would be very helpful for me to be able to dock the video playback window to a corner of the screen which is not in active use.
- As someone who is a user of Non-Linear Editing software, the workflow of having to right click on the video content to resize it/change its form factor seems clunky. A small toolbar at the top or bottom of the video with the size ratios available as buttons along it would be very useful. You could also park context-sensitive buttons on it for toggling dock state (showing dock/undock based on the current state) and window priority (always on top/focus on flick) on there as well. This would all be consistent with well established windowed operating system application conventions.
The fact that these kinds of basic UI/UX features aren’t available in the video window seems odd to me. Even if you only show them when mousing over the top third or bottom third of the window, it would be a significant improvement over what we currently have.
FWIW, I did look at the other posts on this topic, but my feedback is a bit more specific and offers a more detailed approach. Unlike the older posts, mine is also relevant to the current version of Cubase.
