I´ve been given a file with several issues in rhythmic notation (ex. 1) that I would like Dorico to rewrite correctly (it´s too many bars to rewrite it manually) (ex.2). Is it possible?
Thank you very much in advance and best regards.

I forgot to tell: it´s a .mxl file (the owner wrote it in Musescore), not a dorico file
It is likely that the file you were given has lots of forced durations set.
You should be able select (Ex.1) and hit o (or deselect the ‘clamp’ icon on the left).
EDIT: or deselect all the xml import options in preferences, and re-import
I ´ve tried both of them and don ´t work, but thank you very much!
If you upload the file (or a part of it) we can see what’s happening (beyond just guessing).
Is there a meter specified? Or is this open meter?
Hello, it´s a 4/4
As Janus already said, if you import the mxl file with this setting unchecked, then Dorico should apply the rhythmic options you have specified in your Notation Options and not display the rhythms as notated in the original.
If that’s not working for some reason, we’ll probably need to see the file.
Hello, I unchecked that box but the problem remains, thank you!
I´m not authorized to upload the file, but I can upload a fragment. Thank you very much ![]()
Fragment.mxl (10.1 KB)
It’s actually a 2/2!
Select the 2/2 and in the properties panel tick “Use common time…”
Or double-click it and enter 4/4.
Hmm, there actually might be a little bug here where Dorico isn’t properly applying Notation Options on import. It opens like this for me …
… even though I have this Notation Option set:
Once I uncheck that setting, hit Apply, then recheck it and hit Apply, I get this:
@Richard_Lanyon, is the fact that this setting is ignored upon import a bug?
The “Use common time note grouping …” option is a bit unusual. Unlike most Notation Options it doesn’t take effect “live” on the time signatures, it actually affects the note grouping that is created within the time signatures themselves. Toggling that option will rewrite any existing time signatures in the score, which is how it normally works, but it does mean that it won’t directly take effect on imported MusicXML.
You are right, sorry, it is 4/4 ![]()
And it worked perfectly, thank you very much!
Even if I uncheck and check again, it doesn’t work for me, but @charles_piano gave me the solution. Thank you very much! ![]()
You have to hit Apply after unchecking, but it doesn’t matter anymore. Glad you got it working!
