From time to time, I like to put rhythmic slashes and rests above a sing & strum part, but the method eludes me. Working on a tune with words, I want to put rhythmic symbols above the Uke I stave that are the same as in the Chords part, when the rhythm changes from straight 4-beat strumming. Here’s an example: I want Uke I to play 2 strums, a rest, and a strum in these 2 bars, indicated by the C chord diagram, a slash, a quarter rest, and a chord diagram, and in the next bar an Em chord diagram, a slash, a quarter rest, and a chord diagram. Is it a Text thing? Copy & Paste from the Chords part doesn’t do it, and I haven’t been able to do it with the key combinations I’ve tried.
Hi @Nancy_Piver, your uploaded graphic doesn’t show up (and it would probably be helpful to better understand your desired result).
Rhythmic slash information here:
Hiding and showing notes in a slash region a little further down
Sometimes it is easier to change notehead of an existing note already there, right-click, Noteheads
then in Engrave, hide the stem.
Slashes above the stave:
All I want to do is add the symbols shown here in red (the squiggle is a quarter rest) when Uke I needs to play the same rhythm as the chords player, who plays the stave below the Bari part). Could the symbols be applied as a Text item?
Similar to this?
Here is one way
I created a new upstem voice and input rests and high notes (for example high C). If you have input this for a number of bars, hold down Shift and double click on the first one which should select the others then right-click and change to slash notehead (or key command option-2)
Hide the ledger lines and stem in Engrave mode, bottom menu.
Stop rests appearing, with Starts or Ends voice as necessary (Dorico enters rests to fill the bar for that (slash) voice to make musical sense of that voice in that bar) whereas you are using the chord/diagram as a slash (rest).
Otherwise, as you suggested, use Shift-X, right-click for Music text, search: slash (or rest)
you should see some options for slash, rest you can choose from.
You would probably need to increase the font size for them and move them where you need them to be.
I’m not sure what you know
related to how much detail you require to do either of these.
Hopefully someone can clarify if you have problems or suggest some other ways that might be easier. I have used both.
