Ah thats interesting to know Joerg but i havent got a clue how to do that,im too old and too stupid lol,ill open the zip file and see if i can figure it from there, hopefully its a import key commads or something like that failing that ill just redo the key commands ,cubase is phenomenal and i have watched so many video tutorials by greg ondo, dom sigalas etc that my head is spinning but it is things like saving key commands and how to properly save and restore projects etc that i need to learn,it was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise to have a steinberg professional to assist with my question ,very much appreciated, allyupo
I found the real problem of @Hiya. There was an invisible filter configured in the FileBrowser (here for MIDI Loops). I am currently investigating the root cause.
The issue can be surgically fixed by editing the Defaults.xml in a text editor (while Cubase is not running): There is an entry that stores the settings for the FileBrowser:
<item>
<string name="Group" value="mediaBrowserMediaBay_FileBrowserRack"/>
...
</item>
make a backup of your Defaults.xml to be safe, then delete these lines.
Hi Joerg sorry for not seeing this before now.
The string that you refer to was in the defaults.xml
Anyway to cut a long story short,i had an error message and cubase serious crash etc.
so upon next restart i chose to delete preferences and the new defaults.xml does
not contain
You are bang on,the media bay seems to be working good.
On a different subject i am going to make a suggestion for a new feature which i think would be very helpful for midi arranging and i think it is part of your speciality,so i will suggest it in the appropriate group if i can find it,im sure you guys will get to the bottom of the media bay gremlin.
Many Thanks
Allyupo
I have the same problem. cubase 12 pro demo installed on a fresh installed win 11. in the defaults.xml this i s the config . does it look bad ?. strange thing is, when i add the directory to favourite it is show.
I think thatās how itās meant to work, you need to add directory to favourites
I have rename my defaults.xml so cubase 12 ceate new. It work now and there need no scan folders before do in media bay. maybe defaults. xml that is installed was too old. you see need not scan directory for right side browser.
I think the browser in the right hand zone is simply a browser, strange but thatās how it is
The browser in the right hand pane, is called āFile Browserā for a reason⦠Thats exactly what it is. Has nothing to do with favorite folders, sample locations, Media Bay, anything.
Its just a file browser for searching the whole computer.

Hi!
Quick feedback (as far as I recall the details from memory)
The screen shot of the item is truncated, I canāt see the full settings. What I see is a filter to āVST Presetsā which is configured, but I donāt see a filter on folders.
Update: The original bug I filed for the problem is still open. I understand this issue is annoying and fiddling around with settings not an appropriate solution. Iāll discuss the priority of further investigations on this issue with my team.
Until then feel free to contact me when you suffer from this issue, happy to help.
Best regards,
Jƶrg
The Browser is meant to be a file-browser, but it has to gather additional data from the MediaBay database if the folders were included by Add Favorite or checking the box in the Tree of the main MediaBay window. Dark grey folder icons (= no checkmark) indicate they are not scanned into the database but directly read the from file-system.
As the defaults.xml is migrated from previous versions of Cubase, itās possible that some unwanted settings have not been resetted, Iāll take that into account for any investigation on the reported problem.
In my case i install cubase fresh on win 11. so no older version of it on my PC. attached in zip is the old defaults.xml part complete i hope. I verify it when i use the old defaults.xml it does not work. the new have 386 kb. the old (not working 507 kb)
cubase prefs part.zip (959 Bytes)
Thanks for the defaults.xml ⦠when those settings are active, only VST Presets should be listed ⦠that means, if you were looking at other media type, e.g. only AudioFiles, they are filtered out - thatās the bug. (internal note: issue āCAN-43256ā - currently assigned to me)
Hi guys, Iāve had this problem for a long time and not really tried to resolve it even though Iām running Cubase Pro 13 now. However, for anyone else who may be in the same boat, I just followed Joergās advice (see #46), and it made things right. : ) Many thanks, Darren (Wales, UK)
I have the problem for a while now too and itās super annoying. Some folders work fine, others donāt. For some reason when I switch between āset attribute filterā and then choose a mediatype, it goes from showing empty folders to showing all the files in all the folders. Itās useless.
I can only see a Defaults.xml file in the Steinberg Library Manager folder, but sadly I donāt see the line you found in Hiyaās file.
Defaults.xml (1.6 KB)
Waste of time
Problem seems to be resolved for me, after the last update. Fingers crossed.
Hi there, Iām having this issue right now and have been for some time. Even after opening a ticket and deleting prefs and rescanning the issue persists. My media bay can see all my old content thatās been there for years but any new folders/sample packs Iāve added over the past 12 months media bay just sees the folders but not the contents so I canāt audition audio or midi
Barry go to folder
Appdata/roaming/Steinberg
Then find the folder of whatever version you have of cubase, so mine says Cubase 11_64
Then delete ONLY the file that says mediabay.
Mine says mediabay3.
Look at the file extension, it says database.
Then restart Cubase, this lets cubase load a new version of media bay. Let me know what happens
If this doesnāt work donāt worry come back to me and I will tell you another couple of files to delete.
I had this problem with groove agent5, it wouldnāt find i done a hell of a lot of researching and finally found the problem.
I think deleting and refreshing the same files in Cubase might just work.
I also done COMPLETE fresh re installs and those didnāt work.
OBVIOUSLY I saved the details of how I fixed the problem lol.
Itās late just now and I can only do stuff as my health permits but let me know if this works.
If no joy Iāll get back to you.
I know how you feel
Hey Terrie,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. I now have it sorted and I can see ALL of my files via the media bay on the right side of my screen.
Absolutely delighted to finally have this issue sorted as it was getting in the way of my workflow for sure.
Again, huge thanks for your reply and i hope youāre well soon
Best regards,
Barry
